Noon Message to Families

Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Welcome Back!
We hope that everyone had an enjoyable Spring Break. We all needed some well-deserved time off to reflect and re-charge.
We now have the energy and focus to complete the final two months of the academic year. It's imperative that we finish strong. We have several exciting events and celebrations coming up, but maintaining the focus on academics will be paramount.
That includes an emphasis on STAAR Testing. Parents, it will be more important to encourage your children to get a good night's rest and a hearty meal before their STAAR Exam.
STAAR Exams do not tell the complete story of a school district, but they go a long way in shaping the perception and reputation of a district.
We have made a concerted effort to improve our STAAR scores, and we've made considerable strides, even in the face of post-COVID challenges.
Let's have a strong finish to 2023-2024.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Cedar Hill ISD
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE URGENT NEEDS IF THIS BOND DOESN'T PASS? IT MAY BE FAR OFF, BUT IF RENOVATIONS AND REPAIRS AREN'T DONE ON OLDER SCHOOLS IS THERE A RISK OF THEM BEING SHUT DOWN PUTTING A MUCH BIGGER STRAIN ON THE DISTRICT?
When bond funds are not made available for renovations and repairs the following challenges emerge:
- costly emergency repairs may have to be funded out of the general operating budget and when the operating budget is tapped for repairs then other items in the operating budget will have to be cut
- schools deteriorate and become less comfortable and less safe for students and staff
- teachers and staff may decide to work elsewhere where conditions are more desirable.
Preparing for Success: STAAR Assessment Countdown
As we approach the final weeks before the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR), we want to ensure your child is well-prepared and confident for this important academic challenge. This newsletter provides valuable information and tips to support your child in the lead-up to the STAAR assessments.
1. Understand the STAAR Format:
Familiarize yourself with the format of the STAAR assessments. Knowing what to expect will help alleviate any anxiety your child may have. You can find sample test questions and resources on the official Texas Education Agency (TEA) website.
2. Review Key Concepts:
Encourage your child to review key concepts and skills that will be assessed. Focus on areas where they may need additional practice and support. Use study guides, textbooks, and online resources to reinforce these concepts.
3. Create a Study Schedule:
Establish a study schedule that allows for consistent, focused preparation. Break down study sessions into manageable chunks, covering different subjects and skills each day. Consistency in study habits is key to long-term retention.
4. Practice Time Management:
Help your child practice time management during study sessions. Simulate test conditions to ensure they are familiar with the pace at which they need to answer questions during the actual assessments.
5. Utilize Online Resources:
Take advantage of online resources provided by the TEA, as well as other educational platforms. Websites like Khan Academy and Quizlet offer interactive tools and practice tests that can enhance your child's preparation.
6. Encourage Healthy Habits:
Ensure your child is well-rested and maintains a healthy lifestyle in the weeks leading up to the assessments. A good night's sleep and proper nutrition contribute to optimal cognitive function and focus.
7. Provide Emotional Support:
Acknowledge any stress or anxiety your child may be feeling about the assessments. Reassure them that you believe in their abilities and that you are there to support them. Positive encouragement can go a long way in boosting their confidence.
8. Attend Review Sessions:
If the school offers STAAR review sessions or tutorials, make sure your child attends. These sessions provide targeted review and additional support from teachers who are familiar with the exam content.
9. Stay Informed:
Keep yourself informed about any updates or changes related to the STAAR assessments. Regularly check the TEA website for announcements, and communicate with your child's teachers if you have specific questions or concerns.
10. Celebrate Efforts:
Acknowledge the hard work your child is putting into their preparation. Celebrate small victories and milestones achieved during the study process. A positive and encouraging environment can make a significant difference in their mindset.
Remember, the STAAR assessments are an opportunity for your child to showcase their academic growth. With your support and their dedication, we are confident they will rise to the occasion.
If you have any questions or need additional resources, please don't hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your partnership in your child's education.
