Fruity Skewers with Yogurt Dip
Ingredients
- 1 Banana
- Strawberries
- Blueberries
- natural Yogurt
- Maple Syrup
- Cinnamon
You’ll also need
- chopping board
- tea towel or kitchen paper (optional)
- knife and optional straw
- skewers
- teaspoon
- small bowl
Method
- STEP 1
If your chopping board doesn’t have anti-slip grips, lay a dampened tea towel or sheet of kitchen paper on the work surface, then place the board on top to stop it from slipping.
- STEP
Peel the banana – for little fingers, this is easiest to do from the bottom – then, holding the knife securely and with your hand in the claw position, slice the banana. You should get about 12 rounds.
- STEP 3
- Remove the stalks from the strawberries. You can do this by cutting them off with the knife or pushing a straw up through the strawberry and into the stalk.
- STEP 4
- With your hands in the bridge position, slice the strawberries in half: hold each strawberry between your thumb and fingers, then carefully cut in half from the pointy end to the stalk end.
- STEP 5
- Carefully push the banana slices, strawberry halves, grapes and blueberries onto the skewers in any order you like – you can make a pattern or do this randomly.
- STEP 6
- For the dip, mix the yogurt and maple syrup together in a small bowl, then sprinkle over the cinnamon and serve with the fruit skewers.

Weather - Are we inside or outside?
Temperature Threshold: If the temperature or real feel is at least 15 degrees Fahrenheit, the students will be outside for recess activities. We use AccuWeather to regularly check the weather and temperature conditions. This helps us make informed decisions regarding recess and other outdoor activities to ensure your child's well-being. To support these guidelines, we kindly ask that you send your student to school with the appropriate clothing for the weather.
Visitor Managment System (Raptor)
Dear Parents/Guardians of Spalding Park Elementary Students:
Spalding Elementary is pleased to announce that we will begin using a computerized visitor management system for the upcoming school year. We believe the implementation of this new technology will benefit you, your child, and this school by better allowing us to track visitors, contractors, and volunteers in our schools, therefore providing a safer environment for everyone. To ensure every visitor checks in using the new computerized system, you must enter the building through the main entrance.
The visitor management system is a computerized security program that offers many features to protect your child from outside threats. Let's review the basic functions of the system. First, any visitor entering Spalding Elementary School will be required to provide a state-issued photo ID. If you do not have a state-issued photo ID, you may contact the school in advance of your visit to inquire about other acceptable forms of identification
Once the ID is presented, a school representative will scan this ID using the latest in ID scanning technology. The system instantly captures the name, photo, and birth date of the visitor. When this successfully occurs, the software compares the identity of the visitor with the national sex offender registry. If a positive match occurs, school personnel will be immediately and discreetly alerted. Individuals with a sex offense on record will not be permitted to enter the building.
It is important to note that the computerized visitor management system only scans the visitor's name, date of birth, and photo for comparison with a national database of registered sex offenders. Additional visitor data from the driver's license is not gathered, nor is the system connected to any other system such as the Department of Motor Vehicles. Therefore, any other information on the ID is not scanned by the system and is not accessible to any of the users.
Once an entry is approved, the visitor will be issued a badge that identifies him/her as a visitor. The badge includes the date and the purpose of the visit. All staff members are trained to recognize visitor badges. Collectively, everyone in the building will be working together to ensure all visitors have a badge on and have gone through the appropriate check-in process at the main entrance.
As you leave our facility, please pass through the main office to return your badge so we can scan you out of the system.
The safety of our students is our highest priority, and the computerized visitor management system enhances the safety practices at Spalding Elementary School. Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. If you have any questions, please call our office at 712-274-4043.
Have A Safety Concern?
Safe + Sound Iowa offers students and families a convenient way to anonymously report safety concerns related to our school. Trained dispatchers will share the information with appropriate school administrators and/or law enforcement so help can be given to those in crisis or at risk.
School Safety
The safety of our students and staff is paramount. The District uses Standard Response Protocol or common terms to communicate our action and response to an emergency situation. The terms Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter are used so students, staff, and first responders understand the situation and how best to respond.
We encourage families to become familiar with these terms to better understand our school’s response and what to expect in a crisis situation. For more information on safety preparedness within the District, visit siouxcityschools.org.
