A Message from Mr. Nelson
Happy Pride Month! During this month, we take note of acceptance, equality, and celebrating the work of LGBTQIA+ people, education in LGBTQIA+ history, and raising awareness of issues affecting the LGBTQIA+ community.
June, also, begins the conclusion of the academic year. We have accomplished much throughout the year all while facing challenges. As we conclude this year, I want to share some important information that will prepare us to transition into the summer months.
- On Monday (6/3), staff will participate in the final staff meeting of the year. We will review closeout procedures to ensure a successful conclusion of the year.
- Students and staff will have the opportunity to complete the end-of-the-year surveys. They are given annually at Wootton. This qualitative data will be used to inform our work over the summer as we prepare for school year 24-25.
- New communication expectations will be shared with the community in July. Please be on the lookout. Communication will primarily take place through Remind. A support guide will provide more details about what you need to know.
- The physical plant of the school will undergo improvements over the summer. This includes bathroom improvements, painting of common spaces, and ADA enhancements to the auditorium and campus. Parts of the school may close throughout the summer. Moreover, the school building may need to close during bathroom improvements to turn off the water to the building. If this takes place, information will be shared with the community.
- This edition of the Community Update will be the last one of the school year. I will provide a couple updates periodically over the summer. Access the school year calendar here. Please keep these dates in mind:
- Pre-service Week begins for staff on Monday, August 19th
- The first day of school for students is Monday, August 26th
- New Student Orientation will be Thursday, August 29th which will, also, be the New Family Picnic in the evening. If you are new to Wootton, please save the date.
On Friday, we celebrated Wootton’s 2024 graduates. A huge thank you to the students, staff, and families who made it a wonderful day. Let us move into the summer months reflecting on the amazing achievements of the senior class. Class of 2024, I am proud of you. I wish you all the very best in your future endeavors. You will always be a part of the Wootton family and the proud tradition that comes with it. Congratulations, Class of 2024!
Have a wonderful summer,
Doug
Turf Replacement
The stadium at Wootton has been scheduled to undergo turf replacement. The work has commenced. Equipment and materials arrived to campus following the Memorial Day Holiday. I look forward to the completion of this work and to see the improved facilities.
Summer Institute
Wootton High School will be offering Summer Institute classes this year. Classes meet for one hour, daily, from July 22-26, 2024, and will be held virtually due to painting and improvement projects in the building this summer. Classes are for enrichment/preparation and are not offered for transcript credit. Classes for credit are offered through MCPS Central & Regional programs.
Parking Update
Please be advised, we will now be accepting parking permit applications for the last 2 weeks of the 2024 school year. To apply, please continue to apply through the same 2023-2024 school parking permit application available on the Wootton website.
Applicants will be reviewed and updated once all required documents (signed consent form, copy of driver license, and copy of car insurance) have been submitted to Mrs. De La Rosa.
For confidential purposes, please do not email the documents, they should all be hard copy paperwork that can be place in Mrs. De La Rosa’s mailbox.
Once approved, new applicants will be able to pick up temporary parking passes on Thursday, May 30th during lunch and after school. There is no charge for an End of Year permit.
Students will be able to start parking on Monday, June 3rd. All parking will be in the lower parking lot (closest to the stadium). There will not be any assigned parking. Parking availability will be a first come, first serve for the remaining of the school year.
As a reminder, these temporary parking passes will only be valid until June 13th.
Additional information and an updated 2024-2025 school parking permit application will be sent when the application process has opened for next school year.
Please feel free to come to Mrs. De La Rosa in the business office located in the main office if you have additional questions or concerns.

SAVE THE DATE: Back-to-School Fair on Aug. 24
The Back-to-School Fair is back! All MCPS families are invited to kick-off the 2024-2025 school year at Westfield Wheaton on Saturday, Aug. 24 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. Parents will learn about the school system, and county programs and services while enjoying free music, entertainment, giveaways and activities. Attendance Is Important!
Regular daily attendance is expected. It is critical to a child's academic success. Parent/caregiver support of regular daily attendance is essential. Parents/caregivers should provide a note within 3 days stating the reason for absence. This will ensure the absence is marked excused. Students who were absent from school have the responsibility to request make-up work from their teacher.
