Board Approves Math and Physical Education Frameworks
New instructional materials are on the way for mathematics. Last night the Board approved the Mathematics Instructional Materials Proposal and Mathematics Framework, Part II.
The Board also approved the Physical Education Framework, Part I. The new framework will offer more choices for students and more flexibility for high school students.
What are Frameworks and Community Review Nights?
You will often see that the Board has approved a curriculum framework. This is part of the process Millard uses to update curriculum so that students have current learning materials. Frameworks are the curriculum documents that give the standards and indicators of each subject area.
Frameworks are approved in two phases. The first phase includes the standards and indicators. The second phase includes the instructional materials. Determining frameworks and instructional materials is a collaborative process, and also a long one. A typical curriculum rewrite takes two years and many meetings of teachers and administrators. Instructional materials are often field tested so more teachers can experience them in the classroom and give input.
Millard also holds Community Review Nights for all new curriculum. You are invited to come in, look through the selected materials, and visit with the committee members who chose them. Two nights are always scheduled to help parents and community members make them work with busy schedules. The dates, times, and locations will be posted in this newsletter, in school newsletters, and on social media. We run the notices several times so everyone will see them and have time to get the evenings on their calendars. We hope to see you at our next Community Review Night!

Did you know the voting laws have changed?
The voting laws recently changed and include a requirement for a photo id. The Douglas County Election Commission wants to make sure voters know about the changes before they come to vote, and they are asking other government organizations to help them spread the word. As a courtesy, we are providing the link below to the State's information page about voter ID.
