Dear OSES families,
As the school year comes to a close and the summer sun begins to shine brighter, it’s time to think about all the fun activities you can enjoy during your vacation. Here are some exciting ideas to make your summer unforgettable:
1. Outdoor Adventures
- Hiking: Explore local trails and enjoy the beauty of nature.
- Camping: Spend a night under the stars and roast marshmallows by the campfire.
2. Water Fun
- Swimming: Visit your local pool or beach and take a refreshing dip.
- Water Balloon Fight: Cool off with friends in a fun and friendly battle.
3. Creative Corner
- Art Projects: Get creative with painting, drawing, or crafting.
- DIY Science Experiments: Learn something new with at-home science kits.
4. Reading Retreat
- Library Visits: Discover new books and join summer reading challenges.
- Book Clubs: Start a book club with friends and share your favorite reads.
5. Sports and Fitness
- Join a Sports Team: Soccer, baseball, or tennis - pick your favorite and play!

The deadline to sign up for FLL Robotics Summer Camp is June 7th.
Who: Open to all rising 3rd – 8th grade students. Capacity of 50 per session, on a first come first serve basis.
What: The High School Robotics Program will be hosting a robotics themed summer camp to spark and build interest in STEM and robotics.
When:
Session A: June 17th – 28th 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Session B: July 15th – 26th 1:30 PM – 4:30 PM
Where: Orlando Science High School Robotics and Engineering labs
Details: Hosted by the high school robotics teams, students will explore and delve into the field of robotics. We will cover topics related to designing and goals/problems, building and optimizing robots, programming autonomous modes and driving. We will focus on FIRST Lego League robots and challenges. No prior experience is needed! All further questions can be directed to Mr. Whitfield at stephen.whitfield@orlandoscience.org
Cost: Each session is $250. Session B corresponds with a math summer program being held on campus. If your student is interested in both and attending both, talk to Mr. Whitfield about a discount in the cost for the robotics camp.

Competition Math Summer Camp hosted by Orlando Science High School Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society.
Competition Math Summer Camp hosted by the Orlando Science High School Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society is a unique opportunity for interested and talented students to improve their math skills during the summer season. Students are guided and trained by an expert faculty and high school Mu Alpha Theta members via utilizing national and international competitions in a fun and challenging environment.
During the camp, students will be provided with lectures and trained with different types of problems to master various problem-solving techniques. The classes are problem solving-based, whose curriculum is aligned with prestigious national competitions. Lectures will be given, and problem-solving strategies will be taught in Number Theory, Algebra/Analysis, Geometry, and Combinatorics. The camp provides a motivational and challenging environment for students. Also, the camp requires campers to demonstrate teamwork skills and cooperation in social settings. A score of 5 from the most recent grade level FSA Math or Algebra 1 EOC is required. Parents are asked to consider these when registering for the camp. OSS reserves its right to direct to the more appropriate course or deny enrollment if the requirements are not met.
Who: Rising 5th through 8th grade students who would like to improve their scores at targeted math competitions. A score of 5 from the most recent grade level FSA Math or Algebra 1 EOC is required.
Targeted Math Competitions: AMC 8, MathCounts, and AMC 10.

KINDERGARTEN
Kindergarten students have worked so hard this year and have learned so much! So we celebrated the end of the year with a Kinder Carnival! Students enjoyed games, sports, crafts, snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, and even a petting zoo! Thank you to all who volunteered their time to make this day special for Kindergarten.
FIRST
First grade had an AWESOME end of the year week! Field day was fun in the beginning of the week and we ended the week with our first-grade annual glow party! Students had fun playing glow Jenga, stacking glow cups, glow bowling, etc.

What an AMAZING way to end the school year! We've participated in so many exciting year-end activities to bring on the summer. From field day, to popsicles, to bubble day, LEGO Kits and a glow party, the students have had so much fun bringing the school year to a close.

3rd grade had a wonderful trip to Kennedy Space Center on Tuesday. Mr. Martin’s class has had different celebrations this week to celebrate our progress this year. Thank you for a fantastic year families.

Wow! It's the end of the year! We had a great time and time flew! We had so much fun at the Marine Science Center and going to Animal Kingdom! We made so many cool projects like our solar system, our educational video on the environment, and bottle rockets! We learned so much in math, science, reading, and history! We did experiments, escaped escape rooms, created math problems, and read stories that brought us closer together! In our final week we had a great time finishing our mystery filled novel study, The Egypt Game! In the last few days of school, we will have a STEM Day where we will test our paper airplane skills, plant some plants, and make ice cream! Then tomorrow we will finish off the year with pizza, Ponyo, and a party! I want to thank all of my parents for their support throughout this year! I would like to thank my students for being awesome, intelligent, and funny kids who brighten my day! Have a great summer!

This week, students had the opportunity to participate in a range of exciting end-of-year activities. These included engaging learning games, fun glow parties, and a variety of STEM activities. Additionally, students had the chance to sign memory books, yearbooks, and even shirts! Thank you PVO and OSES families for an amazing end of the year celebration!

In a thrilling display of teamwork and skill, the teachers clinched victory in this year's Student vs. Teachers Kickball Tournament! Both teams showcased impressive athleticism and sportsmanship, but the teachers ultimately outplayed the students, securing a well deserved win. Congratulations to all participants for making this event a memorable one!

As the school year comes to a close, I want to take a moment to wish each of you the best of luck as you move on to the next grade. Remember that you are capable of achieving great things!

On May 23rd, Chess Club teachers, Mr. Leighvard (4th-6th) and Ms. Sonn (2nd-3rd) hosted an in-school Chess Tournament for 2nd-6th graders. About 20 students participated. Students enjoyed the matchups and skills were on full display. There was some laughter, tears, and many smiles. Congratulations to all who participated!!
Top students by grade level were: Aashish Jagan, 1st place Middle School; Harish Prathapkumar, 2nd place Middle School; Mahir Nasibli, 3rd place Middle School; Filipp Korshun, special recognition Middle School. Kannan Garg, 1st place 3rd grade; Juan Sarmiento, 2nd place 3rd grade; Shyam Garg, 3rd place 3rd grade.
Krishang Basak, 1st place 2nd grade; Mateo Mansour, 2nd place 2nd grade; Ishanvi Pattamatta, 3rd place 2nd grade; Anika Sinha, special recognition 2nd grade. Many students won at least one match. All participants received chess stickers and small prizes. Highest Point Winners received certificates. Note: not all participants are pictured here. We have made it to the end of another very busy academic year here at Orlando Science Schools.
