6th Grade Update
- Math 6: This week, students will be starting the Math Olympics which is a way to review for our Ohio State Test that is scheduled on April 18th and 19th. If possible, please bring in calculators this week!
- ACE 6/7: Students did awesome with the fraction division and statistics units! Their test came home last week. We are starting to solve equations and inequalities.
- ACE 7/8: Ace 7/8 students are beginning a new unit about Surface Area and Volume.
- ACE ELA: As writers, students will be planning out their own Pixar short and dig into the world of graphic novels! Students will learn from Pixar design specialists as they brainstorm, develop and write their Pixar short. After this initial phase, students will analyze features that make a graphic novel come to life in preparation to turn their Pixar short into a graphic novel. Please check in with your student from time to time to see how he/she is progressing both with the story idea as well as with the visual creation of this idea.
- ELA: Students will participate in book clubs for the second time this year, exploring social issues as well as reviewing important fiction elements. Students will read a portion of their book each night, so be sure to ask them about their reading progress!
- Science: Students are wrapping up our microscope study and moving into Earth Science. We will be investigating minerals, rocks and soil during this unit. Also we will discuss the April 8, 2024, total solar eclipse at the end of the week. The next “total” solar eclipse is in 2044 and only visible in a few states. (Montana and North Dakota)
- Social Studies: Students are learning about urban planning through Mohenjo-daro by studying the Indus River Valley Civilization.
7th Grade Update
- The current book signature cycle will end Friday, April 5th. The new cycle will reset when we return from spring break!
- Ace 7/8 students are beginning a new unit about Surface Area and Volume.

- 8th Grade Science classes are looking to collect any 2 liter bottles for bottle rocket projects after spring break. Please consider donating any empty bottles you may have prior to recycling them!
Math calculators need to be turned into your child’s math teacher by this Friday before spring break so that we can collect them for testing the week we return.
“Shadowing Day” is April 25th! Please ask your student about this and begin discussions about where/who they could shadow. If you need help finding a placement for your student, please reach out to your student’s ELA teacher. *** There will be no classes for 8th graders at MSE that day.***
