Northview HS Newsletter
March 18, 2024 Volume 1, Number 24

Northview Familia,
I am thrilled to share some exciting updates from Northview High School!
We achieved an average daily attendance rate of 94.8% for the week of 3/11 to 3/15! Keep up the great work, Vikings! Our March Attendance Challenge will be a little different this month. We are focusing on improving our attendance on Mondays. Students who achieve a 10% increase in their attendance for Mondays in March will be entered into a raffle to earn a big prize! Students who earn perfect attendance in March will earn two entries into our raffle.
I would like to congratulate Dylan O. for breaking the 400m record with a time of 47.89 seconds and Phoenix R. for breaking the school record for discus with a distance of 121 feet.
We hosted 280 Las Palmas Middle School students for our annual Shadow Day this past Friday. Students were able to get a glimpse at the life of a Viking as they participated in their first Rally, toured our CTE pathways, and got to see our marching band and cheer squad in action. We can't wait to have them start their 9th grade year with us in August.
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.
Have a great week, Vikings!

Now that we are a week into Daylight Saving Time, I bet we could all use a nice NAP.
Ever wondered whether napping is a good idea or not though?
What are the benefits of napping?
Napping offers various benefits for healthy adults, including:
Relaxation
Reduced fatigue
Increased alertness
Improved mood
Improved performance, including quicker reaction time and better memory
What are the drawbacks to napping?
Napping isn't for everyone. Some people simply can't sleep during the day or have trouble sleeping in places other than their own beds, which napping sometimes requires.
Napping can also have negative effects, such as:
Sleep inertia. You might feel groggy and disoriented after waking up from a nap.
Nighttime sleep problems. Short naps generally don't affect nighttime sleep quality for most people. But if you experience insomnia or poor sleep quality at night, napping might worsen these problems. Long or frequent naps might interfere with nighttime sleep.
To get the most out of a nap, follow these tips:
Keep naps short. Aim to nap for only 10 to 20 minutes. The longer you nap, the more likely you are to feel groggy afterward. However, young adults might be able to tolerate longer naps.
Take naps in the early afternoon. Napping after 3 p.m. can interfere with nighttime sleep. Individual factors, such as your need for sleep, your sleeping schedule, your age and your medication use, also can play a role in determining the best time of day to nap.
Create a restful environment. Nap in a quiet, dark place with a comfortable room temperature and few distractions.
After napping, give yourself time to wake up before resuming activities — particularly those that require a quick or sharp response.
Happy Nap Time!

Our Education Pathway students had a very successful book drive this past weekend. We had at least 100 children and their families stop by our event. Each family went home with at least three books per child, goodies bags, and raffle prizes. Our students organized a reading corner, face painting, coloring activities, photo booth, and hat making for the kids. Books were donated by our local libraries and elementary schools. This was a completely student led community service project. It was so great to see so many families enjoying themselves and going home with books to read. Our students in the Education Pathway are making a great difference in the community. If any student is interested in joining the Education Pathway program next school year please talk to your counselor about it.

Staff Spotlight
We would like to welcome our newest campus supervisor, Christina Ramirez. Since she began subbing here at the beginning of the school year, she has made an impact on our campus. She walks the halls ensuring students get to class on time and that students are respectful towards one another.
When Christina is not at work she enjoys anything in the kitchen. Between baking and cooking, she keeps herself very busy. Her three kids enjoy her love for the kitchen too.
Thank you again for joining the Viking family, Christina. Your grit and gold shines bright!
