A Letter From The Principal A Letter From The Principal

Hello, Sumner Families,

Thank you to all who contributed to graduation and a fabulous 23-24 school year.

Congratulations to the class of 2024, our first full cohort who have attended Sumner HS all four years! This group of students have overcome many obstacles and remained resilient. We are proud of you!

Laura Moody from Fox 13 stopped by Sumner a few weeks ago to meet with one of our resilient students. Please see the story recognizing our student and the support of one of our Success Coaches, Mrs. Scolaro. Good Day Grads | Flipping the switch post-pandemic (fox13news.com)

Thank you again to our students, faculty, parents, and organizations that support our community. Thank you to our PTSA, Athletic Boosters, and Performing Arts Boosters. We could not accomplish as much as we have without your support. Parents, I highly encourage your involvement in one of these organizations for the upcoming school year. These organizations allow us to support our students and faculty members. They meet monthly through the school year. More information about joining these organizations will be available at Open House tentatively planned for August 8, 2024.

Over the summer break, I will be working closely with colleagues to identify our instructional and cultural goals for 24-25 school year while building upon the success from this year. We will be setting challenging goals for ourselves and our students. It is important that we all set academic, extracurricular, and personal goals to continue to build a culture of excellence. We will also be planning for a smooth opening for the coming school year. If you have a rising freshman student or new student to Sumner please see the flyer, in the newsletter below, about our FAST Camp at the end of July.

As a reminder, student report cards will be available on June 6, 2024, and can be accessed at - Hillsborough County Public Schools (sdhc.k12.fl.us) Our summer office hours are Monday – Thursday from 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM and closed on Fridays. We continue to support our students through summer school with online HVK12+ courses and credit recovery for our rising seniors and select rising juniors.

Thank you again for your support and commitment to our students' success. We are better together. I look forward to working together in the upcoming school year,

Christine Wasylkiw

Principal

We're partnering with Hazel Health this school year to provide students with an option for high-quality healthcare at no cost to their families. Students can fall behind just by missing 1-2 school days per month.

To help get students feeling better and back to class faster, we're providing tele-health visits with medical providers through this Hazel Health program. Every student in our school has access to these providers that specialize in pediatric care.

Social Media Expectations/Policy

We wanted to remind our students and families that any type of social media disruption and/or degradation will NOT be tolerated at Sumner HS. We are requesting that parents review the below HCPS social media policy with their children. Any student found in violation of the social media policy is subject to a consequence. We ask that you support this important initiative.

Per HCPS Student Code of Conduct--

Social Media Disruption (SMD): This section was added to assist schools in addressing the increasing volume of disruptions and behavioral offenses related to the use of social media. SMD is defined is the intentional use of digital devices such as cell phones, computers, tablets etc. to send, post, or share negative/harmful content that creates an adverse impact on a school’s learning environment. Negative/harmful content can in turn cause discomfort or humiliation, or unreasonably interfere with the school’s ability to maintain routine safety and order on campus.

  • This offense includes the transmission of negative/harmful content regardless of who the initial recorder was; i.e. if a student is sent the information and then in turn sends out the same information, they too are held accountable.
  • This offense includes the intentional posting or sharing of messaging that is insensitive, inappropriate, harmful, and/or slanderous to individuals and/or to groups.
  • This offense is not dependent upon the subject(s) awareness of being recorded.
  • Negative/harmful content includes, but is not limited to: School fights, Bathroom incidents, Vaping/smoking, Hazing, Intentionally creating a disturbance, Destruction of property or Sexual conduct.

Policy found on page 58 of the HCPS Student Code of Conduct.
