Message from the Principal
Hello Gator Families-
We are four hours from starting spring break and your children are very excited! Regardless of whether you are here in Fishers or somewhere else, I hope you all enjoy the different-paced week and have some time to relax and enjoy some family time!
Even though we are moving into the break, I need to bring your attention to some important content in the newsletter:
- Kindergarten Open House - April 11th 5-7 ( please tell your neighbors and make sure to enroll your school-aged child for Kindergarten)
- International Night is April 16th- we are still looking for families who would like to showcase your family culture- reach out to Mrs. Koenig jkoenig@hse.k12.in.us
- Thoughtful Placement form for 24-25 school year
Thank you for taking the time to review the newsletter in its entirety.
Have a restful week and enjoy the Solar Eclipse! If you are in town next week and don’t have eclipse glasses yet, the Fishers Library will be passing out FREE glasses on Thursday, April 4 at 9am. Remember many streets in Fishers will have limited traffic to allow for emergency management and control the flow of visitors coming to be in the Path of Totality. We are expected to have a large influx of visitors.
As always, thank you for sharing your children with us. We are honored to be a part of their educational journey.
With gratitude,
Christi Thomas
Principal, GES

Thoughtful Placement Request Form
2024-25 Geist Elementary School Thoughtful Placement Request
Your child's current grade level team is instrumental in creating a balanced classroom group of students for the following school year based on social and emotional, academic/learning, and personality needs of each student.
Completing the 2024-25 Thoughtful Placement Request form, for special circumstances, will assist teachers and administration in determining classroom placements for the following school year.
We value parent input in identifying the most positive classroom environment. Through the placement request, parents can share areas of strengths and challenges, and how a particular environment would best meet their child's needs. With a school population of 650+ students it is not possible for us to accept specific teacher requests. We appreciate your input in this form instead of an email to the School Counselor and/or Building Administration.
Please know, final class placement decisions rest with the building administration.
This form will close on Friday, May 3, 2024.

Tips from the Nurse: Head Lice
From time to time, a case of head lice is reported to the school throughout the year. Should a case of head lice be brought to the school’s attention, the school nurse will maintain confidentiality of the student’s identity and assist the staff and parents with educational material. While the odds of your son or daughter developing a case of head lice are relatively small, the following includes useful information on head lice and the signs and symptoms.
Head Lice Information
• Head Lice are small parasitic insects that can be found on the heads of people.
• Head lice feed on human blood several times a day and live close to the human scalp.
• Head lice and head lice nits are found on the scalp, around and behind the ears and near
the neckline at the back of the head.
• Head lice cannot fly or jump; they can only crawl
• Head lice are spread by direct head‐to‐head contact
• Head lice are rarely spread by contact with clothing or personal items (such as combs,
brushes, hats or coats)
• Head lice are not a sign of uncleanliness
• Head lice are not known to spread disease.
Signs and symptoms of head lice infestation
• Tickling feeling of something moving in the hair
• Itching, caused by an allergic reaction to the bites of the head louse
• Irritability and difficulty sleeping; head lice are most active in the dark
• Sores on the head caused by scratching
If your child exhibits signs and symptoms of head lice infestation, you should examine your child’s head (especially behind the ears and at the nape of the neck) for crawling lice and nits. If crawling lice and/or nits have been found, all household members should be examined for head lice and/or nits every 3‐4 days. Persons with live (crawling) lice or nits within ¼ inch or less of
the scalp should be treated.
For more information on head lice and treatment go to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) web site at http://www.cdc.gov.
Please be aware that we staff members do not disclose the name of the student, name of the teacher nor grade level to other families in order to provide student/family confidentiality. We do ask that if your child does have lice, please notify the school and those individuals/families that your child has been in close contact with.
