Supporting Students and Families Experiencing Anxiety
Want to learn to support your child (and yourself) when they or you are engulfed in anxiety? This hour-long 2021 video-slide presentation by former 4J school counselor, Rebecca Pang, offers guidance and resources for doing just that. Here are the slides from Becky's presentation with live links to the resources she shares in the video. While Becky is no longer employed by the school district, and the video references the early days of returning to school after the pandemic closure, almost all of her presentation is still absolutely relevant.
Introduction to Dialectical Behavior Therapy for Anxiety and Depression
Know someone who is struggling with anxiety and depression? (Perhaps the real question is whether you know someone who isn't!) This hour-long video-slide presentation by local mental-health therapist, Jen Strickland, teaches some practical basics of DBT technique.

South's College and Career Center
Do you know the 9 most important things about South's CCC? To find out, check out Tools for the Future, a video-slide presentation by College and Career Center Coordinator, Lori Sauter. Here are the slides from Lori's presentation with live links to the resources she shares. (This 36-minute video was made last year but remains completely relevant. Do note, however, that many college visits and fairs have returned to an in-person format.)
And what are these College & Career Center projects people keep talking about?? They're a requirement for all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders and part of their Personalized Learning Requirement on their transcripts, but more importantly, they are a huge help to students in brainstorming options for their future. Learn more here.
**5) SENIOR PROJECT OPTIONS**
Career and Technical Education
South offers many CTE courses which promote career- and life-skill building in different subject areas. These courses may be taken individually, or students may pursue multiple CTE courses in the same subject area as a way to complete their Extended Application graduation requirement. Visit our CTE brochure for more information.
IOP Outdoor Leadership CAM
International High School (IHS) Pathway to Graduation
The Senior Experience
Classic (non-IHS) South students who are not on a CTE or CAM pathway complete the Extended Application graduation requirement by undertaking a Senior Experience. The Senior Experience involves completing 10 hours of college- or career-preparation activities and creating a poster related to their activities to present at a Senior Experience Showcase. Review The Senior Experience newsletter for more information.
**6) EARNING COLLEGE CREDIT IN HIGH SCHOOL**
6a) College Now Courses
What is College Now?
College Now allows area high school students to earn Lane Community College credits for approved courses taken at their high school and taught by specifically qualified high school teachers. Keep in mind for the (near) future that LCC credits earned through College Now count towards the Oregon Promise Grant's credit maximum.
LCC Credit for College Now Courses
Receiving LCC credit is not automatic. Students need to register for the courses through LCC and earn a B- or higher. Kathy Ruggles, SEHS' College Now liaison, assists with registration within each College Now class. Students can also register here on their own for LCC credit. Need help?
