Dear EMS Families,
When considering what ALL our children need in order to have a community where EVERYONE feels safe, respected, seen, heard and valued - KINDNESS is a fit for 100%.
Yesterday's acts of kindness came in many different forms including:
Valentine notes were made and delivered all day long thanks to PTO volunteers.
Baked goods from EMS families for the faculty led to countless smiles and undoubtedly the passing on of kindness throughout the day.
As our hearts are warmed from yesterday’s festivities, I would challenge all of us to consider how we promote and model this kindness every day. Consider how kindness :
translates to the ways in which you’re encouraging your child to use their social media.
drives the topic of dinner conversations.
affects when you join into discussions during carpool to and from after school activities.
Recently Matt Chandler wrote a blog for our EMS community on a documentary about Mr. Rogers. While it was initially intended for educators, the message will undoubtedly resonate and hopefully inspire EMS families as well.
In partnership and with gratitude,
Meg

Edmunds Geo Bee Winner
It is a pleasure to announce the Winner of the Edmunds Geo Bee, Conner Byam. Twenty-four EMS. sixth, seventh and eighth graders qualified to participate from a team selection process in the Bee. As a sixth grader, Conner was more than impressive, correctly answering 27 of 28 preliminary round questions. He survived the final round against 10 finalists and won the championship on this question:
Saginaw Bay, a popular summer tourist destination in the state of Michigan is an inlet of which lake?
(Answer: Lake Huron)
Conner received a medal, will have a certificate printed, and will have his name engraved on the Geo Bee permanent plaque in the school trophy case. He had to take a 60 question online exam with Ms. Howard on Friday 2/8 to qualify for the Vermont state Geo Bee sometime around April 1st. Details will follow.
Congratulations to Conner for a momentous achievement!
The Library Club
The Library Club is a class that is modeled after a summer literacy program designed by the Vermont Humanities Council whose focus is “to engage young people with reading and the humanities”.
Students in this club explore literature, discuss ideas and participate in humanities-related learning activities. The Library Club students have opportunities to pursue personal interests and develop peer relationships. The tone of the class is to create a safe and nurturing learning environment that allows for both active and fun hands-on activities. This semester the theme is Family, Literacy and Cultural Ties using the novel, Amal Unbound by Aisha Saeed.
Seventh and eighth grade students can enroll in The Library Club by signing up for it through the guidance department.
