Reynolds' Report
Hello Roadrunner Families!
Welcome to our first, official weekly newsletter! This is intended to be a one stop shop for all of the school-wide information you will need to ensure your student has a great year. Be sure to check it out each week for information on school events, what we're learning as a school, and more!
As you prepare for the school year, consider creating a morning routine for your students starting now. Elementary age students can be responsible for more than we give them credit for when they have the right support. Even students in our TK classes can be responsible for things like laying their clothes out the night before, making sure their shoes and backpack are by the door for the next day, and double checking that they have their supplies for learning. A visual checklist like the ones below can help students take responsibility to help everyone get to school on time. We can't wait to see your Roadrunner on August 15th!
Class lists will be posted outside the front office at four in the afternoon on August ninth. Our teachers work hard each year to carefully consider the needs of each student to ensure that they are grouped for success. For this reason, requests for teacher changes will not be considered during the first fifteen days of the school year. If a class change is desired after the first fifteen days, a parent will need to meet with the teacher and principal to discuss the desire for the reason for the change and the availability of space in other classrooms.
Our office will reopen this Tuesday, August 6th and will be open daily from 7:30am-4:00pm. Registration is still open for students in all grade levels, so if you know anyone who still needs to register their students, we hope you will send them our way so we can help!
Moving forward, our weekly newsletters will be released each Sunday evening at 7:00pm. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, as they help guide the information I put in my newsletters!
Have a great week, Roadrunners!

Online Registration Is Still Open for New Families, New TK, and New Kinder Students!
Registration for the 2024-2025 school year is still open! Please spread the word to anyone you know who has a new student, an incoming TK student, or an incoming Kinder student. They can find the link to register here: https://www.wpusd.org/in-our-schools/enrollment/new-student-registration/next-year-2024-2025
If your student currently attends First Street School on an intra-district transfer, you will need to request to have their intra-district transfer renewed each year. This process will open on January 19th. The link to submit your intra-district transfer can be found here: https://www.wpusd.org/in-our-schools/enrollment/transfers/intra-district-transfers
Students who currently attend First Street School and live in the First Street School boundaries do not need to do anything with registration. GATE students also do not need to submit an intra-district transfer as their enrollment rolls forward year over year at First Street School.

Reminder: School Supplies
As an AVID school, we are proud to be able to provide school supplies for all of our students. Many students choose to bring a backpack of their own, but if your student will need a backpack for this school year, please come into our office anytime between 7:30am - 4:00pm starting August 6th, or reach out to our family liaison, Rebeca Sanchez Rodrigo at rsanchezrodrigo@wpusd.org.
Reminder: What is a Live Scan?
Live Scan is an ink-less electronic fingerprinting that scans your fingerprints directly into the computer to determine who a person is so that a background check can be done. This background check allows us to ensure that everyone working on our campus is free from a history that might be unsafe for our students. It is one of the ways we keep our students safe!
How does it work?
- When you arrive at our no-cost Live Scan event, you will fill out our Live Scan form - this form is unique to our district, so you don't have to prepare anything ahead of time.
- You will then have your identity verified by the vendor using your government issued identification (ID card, drivers license, passport).
- They will then obtain your fingerprints through an inkless process.
If I was Live Scanned for my job, do I still need to have it done with you?
Unfortunately, each entity that requires Live Scan is required to obtain it's own individual scan, so you will need a Live Scan through our district to participate in school events.
If I was Live Scanned at another school in the district, do I still need to have it done with you?
Great news! If you have done a Live Scan for any school in the Western Placer Unified School district, your Live Scan is valid until your youngest student graduates high school. There is no need to do it again!
If I was Live Scanned last year, do I need to do it again?
Great news! Your Live Scan is valid for the life of your student's education. As long as you are in Western Placer Unified School district, you will not need to complete another Live Scan.
How do I get a TB test?
A TB test is required along with a Live Scan in order to participate in school events during the school day. Your TB test is valid for four years and can be obtained in the following ways:
- Make an appointment with your doctor, OR
- Visit a TB Test center, typically an urgent care center (a list of TB test sites can be obtained through our office)
Still have questions? Give our office a call at 916-645-6330 to get help!
Reminder: Drop-Off and Pick-Up
As we plan for the school year, we continue to focus on the safety of students as our top priority. In order to keep students safe at drop-off and pick- up, please note the following important information:
- Student supervision on campus begins at 7:30am in the cafeteria, please arrange to have your student at school no earlier than 7:30am.
- All students will report to the cafeteria between 7:30am-7:55am, please remind your student to go straight to the cafeteria when they arrive at school.
- Students will be released to the playground at 7:55am and the front gates will open at this time.
- After the first two days of school, 1st-5th grade parents will be asked to say goodbye to their student at the gate.
- When dropping students off, please be sure to pull up to the curb instead of letting students out in the driving lane.
- When picking students up, please be sure to pull all the way up to the white curb and close the gap to allow for other cars to pull in behind you.
- Please do not ask your student to run between cars into the street to get in your car in the middle of the drive lane at pick up.
- Please use the crosswalks to cross the street as running across the street teaches our students unsafe habits.
- Please be respectful and courteous to our crossing guard staff, their priority is your students' safety.
- If you are getting out of your car to drop off your student, please park on the street or in a designated parking spot to avoid blocking the drop-off/pick-up lane.
- Consider parking in the church parking lot and walking over to the campus to avoid traffic.
- Consider walking to and from school! It's great for your health, the environment, and it keeps our drop-off and pick-up times less populated with cars!
We appreciate your partnership in keeping our students safe this school year!

- Earn Box Tops for participating products by scanning receipts with the Box Tops app.
- When you shop online or use delivery services, you can earn Box Tops by forwarding your e-receipt to receipts@boxtops4education.com or by uploading it with the Box Tops app. Learn more about submitting e-receipts here.

Updated COVID Protocols
Student Quarantine:
Effective this year, California Department of Public Health has replaced most of the requirements about student quarantine with recommendations. The one remaining requirement is that students who are ill must be fever-free for at least 24 hours without the aide of fever-reducing medications before they are able to return to school. Please see the documents below for more detailed information.
