March 2025

Hello Viking Community,
Yesterday marked the end of the third quarter, a reminder of how quickly the school year is moving. As we step into March, we celebrate the arts in our schools—Music in Schools Month and Youth Art Month highlight the creativity and talent our students bring to our community. Our extracurriculars, from the stage to the field, play a vital role in shaping well-rounded learners.
Winter sports are wrapping up, spring sports are gearing up, and with longer, brighter days ahead, there’s a renewed energy in the air. Spring break is just around the corner, and before we know it, we’ll be heading into the final stretch of the school year.
Let’s make the most of these days—work hard, enjoy the journey, and as always, Go Vikings!
Best,
Dr. Kristine Michael
Superintendent
Board of Education Message on Upcoming Superintendent Search
Dr. Kristine Michael has been a dedicated leader for Northridge, and we are grateful for the lasting impact she has had on our schools and community. As she moves on to her next chapter, we wish her the very best.
As a Board, we are committed to a transparent, collaborative process to find our next superintendent, ensuring input from staff, parents, and community members. Together, as a Viking community, we will move forward with a thoughtful search to find the right leader to continue our district’s progress.
Read Across America Week at Northridge Local Schools
Northridge Local Schools celebrated Read Across America Week with library events, classroom visitors, and plenty of fun with our favorite characters. We were also honored to host Kristy Boyce last month, a New York Times bestselling YA author! High School students had the chance to chat with her about her books, explore her journey to publication, and take part in a writing workshop.
Northridge Juniors Explore Career Paths at Career Xpress 2025
Northridge High School juniors attended Career Xpress 2025 at OSU-Newark/COTC, where they explored careers in healthcare, skilled trades, IT, and business. Students gained hands-on experience in mock interviews, teamwork, and problem-solving while connecting with industry professionals. Sessions like Adulting 101 and Soft Skills provided practical knowledge for life after high school. This event helped students discover new interests, build confidence, and take meaningful steps toward their future careers!
Full STEAM Ahead at Northridge
Northridge Elementary hosted its second annual community STEAM Night, a hands-on celebration of learning. The event featured students and local organizations, including The Works, Soil and Water, and Dawes Arboretum. Students transformed the cafeteria into a miniature town with their cardboard creations, while Mr. Elkhoury’s famous marble run was a highlight. Families left with armfuls of their own creations, making for an engaging and fun evening.
Middle School Band & Choir Shine in Spring Concert, Prepare for OMEA Competition
The High School / Middle School Band and Choir took the stage on March 2 for their Spring Concert, showcasing a variety of songs. The 6th-grade Band kicked off the evening with all four parts of Ele(mental), followed by the 7th/8th-grade Band performing three selections. The 7th/8th-grade Choir closed the concert with three beautifully performed pieces.
A huge thank you to Mr. Alex Healey and Mrs. Leah Fraley for their dedication in preparing our students, and to the High School Jazz Band for welcoming family and friends. Now, our talented musicians are setting their sights on the OMEA competition this weekend—good luck to all!
