Spring Garden Buzz

Experiencing your kids' hard work and growth is truly a privilege. This month, we highlight an area on our goal tracking bulletin board that is an exciting one to watch.

Did you know that a dedicated team of 5th graders visits each homeroom at SG weekly to record the class's gains in math and reading? One of our student data leaders created a Google form where the kids submit the class scores, and then our 5th grade team keeps our board updated. Check it out the next time you stop in the building!

We aim for all our kids to be on or above level in math, and we are making incredible progress in that direction! On the right side of our math mountain, you can see the percentage of kids at each grade level who are hitting that impressive goal. (We're looking at you, Kindergarten and 1st Grade, with more than 90% of kids on and above level!)

We also aim for our students to increase their scores in our math IXL tool by 100 points by the end of the year. Check out the average point gains in each grade level...that's right, 4th grade has already hit our end of year goal!

Ask your child about their IXL score and their progress. They can show you how much they've grown this year! (Pro tip: to be on grade level at this time of year, your child's IXL score should start with their grade level. So 1st graders should be 100 or higher, 2nd graders 200, and so on. Kindergarteners should be 40 points or higher. If they aren't there yet, encourage them to practice on First in Math and IXL at home each day!)

• March 28: Join us for Leadership Day! Families welcome 8:55-10:00
• March 30: SG Bowling @Steel City Bowling (see below for flier and details)
• March 31: End of 3rd marking period

We have lots of opportunities for parents who want to get involved as leaders in our PTO next year! Nominations are open now for 4 open positions: two Vice Presidents, Recording Secretary, and Social Media Content Creator. Nominations close April 7, and elections will be held online April 14-22. Help your child get ready for summer swim and water safety by signing up your 4th or 5th grader for free water clinics at the Freedom and Liberty pools! Sessions run for 6 weeks and start on April 1st. See the flyers below for details.
