Board of Education Recap
The Board of Education held its regular meeting on Wednesday, January 15, with President Mick Bates presiding.
DAC Update
Before approving the agenda, President Bates revisited the DAC discussion from the December meeting. After consulting legal counsel, the Attorney General's office, and DAC members, President Bates concluded that no changes to the DAC members or its Chair are necessary. He noted that the committee is functioning well and is halfway through its current cycle.
Student Recognition
The Board recognized Woodland Park Middle School band students and their Director for their outstanding achievements. These students were selected to perform in the prestigious Pikes Peak Middle School Honor Band and/or the Collegiate Peaks Honor Jazz Band.
Action Items:
Meeting Notice Resolution: President Bates read the resolution, and the Board voted unanimously in favor.
Revised Budget & Appropriation Resolution and Resolution Authorizing the Districtβs Participation in the State Treasurerβs Interest-Free Loan Program: CFO Jack Bay could not present the 2024-2025 Revised Budget due to new information received from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) earlier this week. The updated figures impact the budget and the cash flow, which affects the Free Loan Program. These items will be addressed at the next meeting.
February Board Meeting Reschedule: To accommodate scheduling conflicts, the Board unanimously approved rescheduling the February Regular Board Meeting to January 29.
Discussion/Information:
The district proposed hosting the upcoming Board Retreat at The Hideaway in North Colorado Springs on April 26. The board members will email suggestions for the agenda to the Secretary to the Board by the March Regular Board Meeting. The board members confirmed April 26th as the date and The Hideaway as the retreat location.
Board Reports
Director Kimbrell announced that the next BOCES Board Meeting will be held on January 21 at the District Office.
Director Barkley shared information from a TESSA representative offering services to the district to provide student support services. She will share the email with the rest of the Board.
The next regular Board meeting is scheduled for January 29, 2025.
