FROM FOERSTER'S DESK- Updated
I can't believe I am saying this, but it is time to start thinking about class lists for the 2025-26 school year. There is never a perfect class building process, but getting the voices of all stakeholder is essential. The process of creating new class groupings for the following year requires an understanding of each student’s needs as well as the needs of the school community. Teachers consider a wide range of factors including academic performance, personality, social and emotional needs, mix of boys and girls, and leadership skills, to name a few.
We value your input and we will take this information into consideration as we develop balanced class groupings for the next school year. We ask that you do not request specific teachers (if so, this will NOT be considered when building class lists). If you have any questions, please contact the school principal, Tennille Foerster, at tennille.foerster@jeffco.k12.co.us.
Please fill this form out by Wednesday, March 12th.
Have a wonderful weekend 💖

SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING - Updated
Amazing Growth!
We completed our mid-year social, emotional, and behavioral screener in February and we saw amazing growth for our students! This year, we completed the SSIS SEL twice - at the beginning and middle of the year - to screen the social-emotional-behavioral skills in the competencies areas of: Self-Awareness, Self-Management, Social Awareness, Relationship Skills, and Responsible Decision Making skills. The SSIS SEL informs our instruction and practices schoolwide to support the development of these skills in our students. Our mid-year screener shows that 76% of our students demonstrate proficient skills across all five competencies, up from 68% at the beginning of the year. We have engaged in the following universal practices to support students' growth in social-emotional and behavioral skills this year: utilizing the Second Step curriculum to explicitly teach growth mindset & goal-setting, emotion management, empathy & kindness, and problem-solving skills; teaching, re-teaching, and reinforcing that Sabertooths ROAR when we are Safe, Respectful & Responsible; facilitating weekly community-building circles; and responding to problem behaviors through a restorative lens. Our mental health team partnered with several grade-levels to provide additional instruction around social thinking and executive functioning skills to further support this skill development. Some individual students also received more targeted support, following conversations with caregivers, to address their needs through Check-in, Check-out, Skills Groups, and Mentoring. We continue to refine this multi-tiered approach and value our partnerships with families in this work. Thank for all your support and reinforcement in building these skills at home and in the community!
