Langley Library Newsletter
December 2024
Hi Langley families,
November was filled with stories about gratitude in the Langley Library. Classes got to listen to What Your Ribbon Skirt Means to Me: Deb Haaland's Historic Inauguration by Alexis Bunten and Nicole Neidhardt , Thankful by Elaine Vickers and Samantha Cotterill, and/or Berry Song by Michaela Goade. We also created a massive paper chain filled with all the things that students are thankful for.
We had an author visit from San Antonio author Sharon Miller, sharing her story Finley Finds Her Way about a tree frog who learns that she is the best at being herself and doesn't need to be anyone else. She shared lots of great animal facts as part of her Storytime and students had lots of questions!
December will include lessons about winter, snow, and winter-themed Makerspace stations
Thank you for all of your support of the Langley Library and please reach out anytime I can be of assistance!

Library Puzzle
If you've stopped in the library this year, you may have seen our 2,000 piece puzzle that students have been working on. We always have a puzzle out in the library, but this is the first time we've done one this large.
The upper-elementary students have been working hard to get this one put together for almost three months. We are happy to report that it is almost finished! We'll be putting a new one out in December and you are welcome to stop by and work on the puzzle anytime.
November in the Library
Ms. Mosley's camera lay forgotten for most of the month, but here are a few pictures to share.
Celebrate your child’s birthday by donating a book to the Langley Elementary School Library in his/her honor. No need to bring in books - your child will choose from a great selection of brand new, popular titles available in the library for their Birthday Book. The cost is $20 per student to participate.
You can access the form to get more details and register for Birthday Book Club here or pick up a paper copy in the library or main office.
Library Policies - Students and Families
Here is some general information about our library policies. I want to highlight one big thing - parents and guardians can check out books! Reading to kids at home is so important and I would love to have family members checking books out of the library every day.
Library Hours
The library is generally open and available for students and families to check out/return books between 7:15 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. The library is closed for my lunch (which is 30 minutes sometime between 11:30 and 12:30, it changes day to day), when I'm in planning meetings with teachers on Wednesdays, and when I'm off-campus for meetings (once a month).
Parents/guardians must check in with the main office (with their ID) to get a visitor's badge before visiting the library.
Class Visits
Each class has a scheduled library visit every other week. Teachers can schedule additional time as needed. Students can return books and get new ones outside of their regularly scheduled library class.
Student Checkouts
All books are checked out for two weeks.
- Pre-K - Students can check out 1 book
- Kinder - Students can check out 1 book in the fall, 2 in the spring
- 1st through 5th - Students can check out 2 books
Parent/Guardian Checkouts
Parents/guardians can check out up to 5 books at a time for 2 weeks. They can come in with their child in the morning before school to check out/return books if they'd like to browse with them, but they can also come in by themselves anytime during the school day when the library is open.
Parents/guardians need to fill out a form so that Ms. Mosley can create a family account for you. You can pick up the form in the library or print it at home.
Makerspace Mornings
The library is open from 7:15 a.m. - 7:40 a.m. for Makerspace Mornings. Any student in 2nd - 5th grade is welcome to come, but once the library is full I send students back to their grade level hallway.
