Lake Bluff Elementary School Family Newsletter
Hello Lake Bluff Families,
As much as we love our furry friends, they unfortunately are not allowed on school property at any time. This is for the safety of all. Please keep your dogs home during pick-up and drop-off. Additionally, the school grounds (even during non school hours) is off limits for dogs, however, I hear there is a wonderful dog park at Estabrook if your furry companion needs a place to run.
Speaking of safety concerns, I wanted to remind you that the parking lot is for staff use only. It is not to be used as a student drop off location. Student drop off occurs on Lake Bluff Blvd in "hug and go" zone. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school safe and clean.
Monday, February 10 is the last day to get entered in to the 4K lottery for 25-26 school year. If you or anyone else you know would like to be entered into the lottery for a morning slot, please remind them of the deadline.
Have a safe and nice weekend!
Kind Regards,
Johanna French, Interim Principal
A Message from Dr. Burgos, Superintendent
Dear Families,
Earlier this week, I met with Interim Principal French and with school staff to discuss how we will approach the recruitment process for the Lake Bluff principal position.
Hearing from you about the qualities and experience you want in your Principal and the priorities you feel need to be addressed is the first step, and I hope you will take a few minutes to complete this survey.
Together with staff survey results, your input will be very important in determining our recruitment needs and next steps. I will provide a follow up communication about the process during the week of February 17.
I look forward to receiving your feedback!
Laurie Burgos, Ph.D.
Superintendent

Meet our Staff
Every week we will try to showcase some important people that you may not know who contribute to the success of Lake Bluff.
Jack Wallner
Mr. Wallner is Shorewood's Instructional Technology (IT) Manager. He has been at Shorewood for 11 years. He was thrilled to have an opportunity to work at his alma mater: a place he knows and loves. He began his career in Shorewood as "instructional technology support" and has advanced to IT Manager. Jack is truly a jack of all trades and his knowledge base runs deep. We are lucky to have him on our team!
Mr. Wallner's Fun Fact: Mr. Wallner is a Shorewood Alumni, in fact he went to Lake Bluff. He remembers the days when they would light a fire in the fireplace in the library for story time. Clearly it was a LONG time ago.

Friends of the Shorewood Public Library: Yard Sign Campaign
The Friends of the Shorewood Public Library are planning to fill the village with yard signs in support of the library, beginning on April 6 when National Library Week kicks off.
This year’s yard sign campaign will be bigger than ever. And signs with a new slogan will replace the “I Love the Shorewood Library” signs that have been used in the past.
Does a member of your household have an idea for a great new slogan you’d like to share? A contest to choose a new yard sign slogan is being hosted by the Friends. Entries can be submitted using this Library Yard Sign Campaign link. The contest closes on Feb. 28 and a winner will be announced in March. Students are encouraged to enter.
Shorewood Softball
Registration for the 2025 SLL Softball season is officially OPEN! To register, go to ShorewoodLittleLeague.com and click on the Registration tab to get started.
Our program is open to girls who are currently in grades 3 through 8. Families who register more than one player (including in SLL baseball) receive a discount.
Practices will begin at the start of May, with games running through June and July. We encourage beginners as well as athletes who are active in other sports to participate in this summer program. We are planning on a fun and competitive season where girls get to play with their friends while making new ones. Games and practices will mostly take place in Shorewood.
If you have any questions about registration or the program, please let us know.
SPRING CLINICS
Shorewood Little League and the Grey Falcats co-op, the high school program that includes Shorewood High School, Brown Deer High School and the University School of Milwaukee, will once again host spring clinics for youth players at Shorewood High School this spring. Clinics will be led by Grey Falcats varsity coach Chris Miller. The clinics are a great way to hone your skills and get ready for the coming season.
There are two sets of clinics.
1. Softball Camp, on four consecutive Sundays from Feb. 23 through March 16, focused on hitting, fielding and conditioning.
2. Pitching Clinic, on April 6, 13, 27 and May 4.
To register, go to ShorewoodRecreation.org, click on the "Youth Sports" tab, and then "Softball."
