K-12 Career Counselor

Students were able to listen, ask, and learn from various Healthcare professionals from Merck. HealthWorks was graciously funded through the Methacton Education Foundation.

We had various stakeholders volunteer and share information about Jobs and Careers for this event. 9th -12th grade Methacton High School students visited various volunteers at tables to learn more about the jobs available, opportunities, and responsibilities included in various positions.

Thank you to members of the Methacton School District's Advisory committee for attending our Spring 2024 meeting at Methacton High School. We had various stakeholder's in attendance from students, parents and guardians, community members, administrators, teachers, North Mont Co. Technical Career Center, Montgomery County Community College, and our Methacton Education Foundation. Stakeholders were able to review our current career curriculum and events. Students at Skyview Upper Elementary School are able to eat lunch with a featured career café presenter. Students are able to learn about various careers monthly. Students must sign up for career café at the Counseling suite to participate.

• February: Detective from Lower Providence Police Department
• April: Lawyer (MHS Alumni)

Please message Dr. Maffei if you are interested in volunteering for this quick and fun event. Volunteers are needed! A valid driver's license is required to volunteer.

Methacton High School students were able to participate in the Real World Leaders Radio Show. This event connected them to real-live-CEO's. More to come for next school year, please email Dr. Maffei at smaffei@methacton.org if you are interested in joining!

Fourth graders will participate in the JA Our Region program, which introduces students to entrepreneurship and upper elementary grade social studies learning objectives, including regions, resources, supply chains, and problem solving.

This learning experience provides students with a practical approach to starting a business while preparing them to be entrepreneurial in their thinking to meet the requirements of a demanding and ever-changing workforce.

Junior Achievement is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering young people’s future success by helping them become entrepreneurial thinkers, financially capable, and work ready.

Are you interested in an internship while a MHS student?

Seniors are able to take a course called Pre- Career for either Semester 1 or 2. This will give Seniors an opportunity to intern at a place of their choice during the school day, all while earning school credits. Pre-education interested students may be placed with the assistance of the K-12 career counselor in respective Methacton Elementary Schools!

Pre-career applications are due by April of their Junior year. Your school counselor can assist you further with these request.

On Tuesday, March 26, 2024, Arcola hosted their annual STEAM Day, a school-wide career day! This event is designed to promote the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics careers, plus show how the Arts support STEM fields.

Thank you to all the presenters who shared information about their careers in an interactive manner!

Skyview Upper Elementary School hosted its 13th annual Career Day on April 5, 2024. Career Day is an exciting school-wide event that builds career awareness and offers students an up-close and personal view of a wide range of jobs in and around our community. The presentations of our alumni, parents, friends and community members spark student interest and allow them to develop an understanding of the skills necessary for various professions.

Are you pursuing a degree in education?

We welcome our MSD alumni in education career programs to substitute teach for us. All of our substitutes are hired through Substitute Teacher Service (STS).

Come back after graduation and possibly work as a full-time teacher.
