Middle of the Year Testing
In the coming weeks, we will be testing students knowledge in the areas of Reading and Math. We will use the iReady Diagnostic to measure current ability level and growth from the beginning of the school year. This will be our second diagnostic test of the year.
Here are a few things you can do to help support your student:
- Make sure they get a good night’s rest before taking the Diagnostic!
- Talk to your student about why the second Diagnostic is important. You can say things like:
- The second Diagnostic helps you find out how much progress you’ve made since the beginning of the year.
- It allows your teacher and I to celebrate your accomplishments!
- Try your best, and do not rush - but do not spend too much time on a question either.
- Questions on the diagnostic change based on your answers to earlier questions. You will see questions you don't know and that is okay! Just try your best!
- Let them know you're excited to celebrate their progress!
We will send home progress reports similar to what you saw at conferences before we go on break.
We appreciate your continued partnership in your student's learning!
Homework or Extra Practice
You may have seen "homework" or "extra practice" coming home with your student or communication about this in your teacher's newsletter. In an attempt to give students additional exposure to already learned topics within the classroom, we have committed to providing students and families with homework or extra practice. A math sheet and a piece of reading practice is what you will see. Students are not required, but strongly encouraged to complete the extra practice. Reach out to your child's teacher for more information.
