Measuring Our Success
The 7th week of school has been full of learning experiences for all of us here at Fletcher Elementary. Our TK-2nd grade students were individually assessed on their reading abilities by their teachers using the Fountas & Pinnell assessment system. This information will give us an incredibly clear picture of where our learners are so that we can custom tailor an approach to ensure they are at or above grade level by the end of the year. Our 3rd-5th graders were assessed on their mathematical understanding and reading abilities using online diagnostics called the FAST reading assessment and the DEMI (District Essential Mathematics Indicators).
This week Fletcher was also honored with speaking time at the Kearny Cluster meeting on Wednesday. In his remarks, Principal, Jeff Friedenberg, highlighted the newly adopted vision statement, our main school initiatives, and the dedication our staff has for our students. You can view his remarks here: Fletcher Elementary School - Kearny Cluster Presentation.
Next week our School Site Council will be gathering on Wednesday from 1:00-2:30 to review and approve the Comprehensive School Safety Plan for 2021-2022. Also on Wednesday, Area Superintendent, Dr. Christina Casillas will be visiting to review and support the great work being done day in and day out. Thursday, Fletcher Elementary will be joining schools across SDUSD and the State of California in the Great California Shake-Out. This is an annual duck-cover-hold-evacuate drill to practice our procedures in case of an earthquake. Please review the importance of taking these practices seriously with your student.

Jog-A-Thon November 3rd
On Wed. Nov. 3 we will hold our first Fletcher Jog-A-Thon of the 2021/22 school year! All students will gather on the upper field and warm up for the start of the event. They will run/walk with fun music playing in the background for about 45 minutes. It is always festive and fun to watch all the smiling faces. All laps will be logged with our lap tracker system, which highly motivates the students to run every day at school.
Our Fletcher Running Club comes with some expenses and so we ask for your support to raise funds to run the program throughout the year. Expenses include:
- The lap tracker software subscription
- Recognition awards throughout the year
- End of the Year Running Club awards for all participants and our top runners
- A field trip for our top runners which includes all grades
The lap tracker software allows us to provide frequent feedback to all students on how many miles they have run. There is also a parent portal that you can follow your child’s running progress throughout the year. We will hold more Fun Runs as the year goes on.
To donate, please follow the link below to set up an account on SchoolCash. visit: https://sdusd.schoolcashonline.com/ and set up an account. Then choose the Jog-a-Thon fundraiser and select the amount they'd like to donate.
