Message from the Board
I hope everyone had a restful and fun spring break! Thank you so much to everyone who donated items for the teacher and staff appreciation luncheon prior to break. The staff at Penn Wood were treated to lots of yummy food, desserts, snacks, etc. to get them through the long day of conferences. It's so nice to see everyone sit down and enjoy a meal together. All trays, bowls, spoons, etc. were washed and are in the teacher lounge. Please pick them up at your convenience if you want them back.
It's hard to believe that it is April already, and according to the calendar, spring is in full swing! Lots going on this month! 5th grade photo, Breakfast with a Buddy, PSSAs, and Bag Bingo to name a few. Thank you also to everyone who purchased tickets to Bag Bingo - the event sold out in only a few days! We are planning such a great night with 10 designer bags to be won with bingo games, a 50/50 raffle, and over 30 raffle baskets! Keep your eye on the Home & School Facebook page these next two weeks where we will be sharing some sneak peaks at the basket raffle items. A special thank you to Malvern Day Camp for donating a FULL WEEK of summer camp to our basket raffle! That's a value of $595! Basket raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets can be purchased ahead of time through MTK or at the door the night of the event (cash or Venmo). Can't wait to see you there!
Sincerely,
Karen Pestritto
Home & School Secretary

4th and 5th Grade Track Meet T-Shirts - Orders Due April 5
WCASD Track & Field Day is Wednesday, May 15 (rain date May 17) for 4th and 5th grade students. Home & School will be providing shirts for all 4th grade students and any new 5th grade students. Shirts will be delivered to school and handed out the day of the event.
If you have not already submitted a shirt size for your child, please click HERE to let us know what size shirt your child will need. You may want to "size up" since the shirts run small and so it still fits next year. Size orders are due by tomorrow, Friday, April 5.
** 5th grade - Your child should re-use their t-shirt from last year and wear it to school on the day of the track meet. If you’d like to purchase a replacement for $5, click the above link and we will contact you for payment.
MANY volunteers are needed for the Track Meet to be successful. Let's show up for our students, Penn Wood! You can volunteer HERE if you have your clearances.
Yearbook Photo Submissions - Due April 5
The Yearbook Committee will develop the yearbook in waves and we need your help!
You can help by following these steps:
- Access the Yearbook Photo Submission page HERE (you will need to log in to Membership Toolkit) or by navigating to the How You Can Help tab on PennWoodHSA.com and selecting Yearbook Photo Submission.
- Upload your photos per event/activity by the due date listed. Photos are due on/before April 5.
Thank you for your help in making the yearbook memorable for our students!
Yearbook Sale
Yearbooks are on sale NOW! Reminder: 5th graders automatically receive (1) yearbook included in their 5th grade fee, so you only need to submit the form for your 5th grader if you wish to order additional copies.
To order, log into pennwoodhsa.com and then click this LINK.
You will also be able to find the order form by:
- Logging into pennwoodhsa.com
- Clicking on "My Account"
- Scrolling down to "New Forms."
- Select "2023-24 Yearbook Order Form"
$15.00 Early Bird Price - EXTENDED until April 5
$18.00 Regular Price - after April 5 (to May 31)
We recommend one yearbook per child. Yearbooks are distributed at the end of the school year where classmates often enjoy writing in each others' books. We encourage you to purchase yearbooks at this time because we need an accurate count before the final book goes for printing. A small amount of books may be accessible for purchase after the deadline for $20.00, but we cannot guarantee availability.
Book Fair - Thank You!
We had another successful Spring Book Fair! Thank you to all the student helpers, parent volunteers, Patty Arabia for organizing, and those who donated books or money to our teachers and library. Every contribution means so much to the students. The profits from this fair has provided over $6,000 in Scholastic Dollars for our teachers to spend in the Scholastic store to purchase items that benefit our classrooms.

Home & School Executive Committee 2024-25
We are already looking ahead to the 2024-25 school year! Elections for Home & School's Executive Committee will happen at the May 9 meeting. Several of our current board members have children moving on to middle school next year. This will leave open a few positions including President-Elect, Vice President, and Director. Currently we have candidates for all positions except President- Elect. However, it's always good to have new ideas and energy if you'd like to consider running for a position, getting more involved as a committee chair, or by shadowing a position.
Please reach out if you'd like to learn more about what's involved as an officer, director, or committee chair. You can also learn more by visiting the Bylaws on the Resources page at PennWoodHSA.com or Our Committees to read more about some of the committees you can get involved in.
Thanks for your support - YOU help make the PWE community so wonderful!
Danielle Chamness, President
Volunteer Opportunities

You can check out the My Account section of PennWoodHSA.com at any time for current volunteer opportunities. Home & School is also looking to fill the following roles for the 2024-25 school year (on top of the Executive Board positions listed above):
- Dine & Donate (Chair or Shadow Opportunity) - Help coordinate monthly nights out with local restaurants.
- Pretzel Fridays Shadow (current 4th Grade Parent to take over for 2024-25 school year) - Help organize Pretzel Fridays next year which is 5th Grade's biggest fundraiser.
- Yearbook Photographer - Capture photos at school events for the 2024-25 school year yearbook.
You can work solo or partner up with a friend or two! There are many different ways to get involved based on your individual interests and availability. You can read more about these and all of Home & School's Committees HERE. You can also attend an upcoming Home & School meeting. The next one is scheduled for April 11 at 6 p.m. in the library.

5th Grade Corner
The 5th Grade Committee and the Yearbook Committee need your help to make the yearbook great for our 5th graders!
We are still missing some shout outs for our 5th graders. We would love to include all of our 5th graders!!
Submit a "Shout Out": We are offering 5th graders’ families an opportunity to send a "shout out" to their 5th grader(s) in the yearbook. These messages allow you to have a special note printed in the yearbook as your child(ren) achieves the milestone of moving from elementary to middle school. This requires two steps:
- Complete the shout out Google form HERE ASAP
- Submit a recent photo of your child(ren) to go next to your message. Please email your picture to PWE5thgrade@gmail.com with your child's name and "Shout out picture" in the subject line.
If you have any questions about the Shout Out, please contact Stephanie DeVore at stephanie.devore@gmail.com.
Field Trip Update: Our trip to Philadelphia will be on Thursday, May 9. We will be taking a walking tour of historic Philadelphia, visiting the Constitution Center, and ending the day with a tour of Lincoln Financial Field. Permission slips have been sent home. Please make sure that you have returned them to your child's teacher.
If you are interested in chaperoning, please check that your volunteer clearances are up to date. Parents will not be riding the bus for the trip, so we suggest that you carpool. More information to follow.
