Sherwood Middle School
August 28, 2022 Update
Dear Sherwood Families,
It was great to see so many of you at our Open House this past Thursday. We are equally excited to welcome all of our students back this Tuesday!
Please do not worry if your child did not have an opportunity to bring their school supplies this week, they can bring them on the first day, or any day throughout the week.
We know that the beginning of a new school year can bring on a variety of feelings for both students and parents. Please remember that all of these feelings are normal and we will be here to help and support you and your child every step of the way.
Please review the updates below and call our Main Office at 508-841-8670 if you have any further questions.

Where Do i go on the first day of school?
Grade 5 and any new students will report to the gymnasium to meet their teachers.
Grade 6 students will report to their homeroom to meet their teachers.
ALL Students: REMEMBER TO WEAR YOUR TEAM COLORS!!!
Don't worry, there will be plenty of adults around the building to help you figure out where you are supposed to go. :)
Student Pick Up/Drop Off
There are many cars dropping off students, so we ask parents/guardians to stay in your car and allow your child to walk in the building on their own. This ensures everyone's safety.
Parents/guardians that are picking up their child need to print this Pick Up Sign and have it displayed on their windshield for staff to see. Thank you for your cooperation!
Important Reminders
School Hours
The school day runs from 8:00 am-2:35 pm each day. Students that arrive after 8:00 am are considered tardy.
Student Absence
All parents/guardians must inform the office if their child will be absent or late to school. SPS requires that you telephone us either the night before or first thing in the morning on the day of the child’s absence at 508-841-8670. If we have not received a call to report an absence, the school will be in contact with the parent to confirm the child’s safety.
Dismissal
If you are dismissing your child early, please call the Main Office at 508-841-8670 (instead of emailing team teachers).
Bus Registration
Please click on This link for district information on transportation services and answers to your most frequently asked questions. Bus routes and stop information will be provided later in August before school re-opening.

Food Service Information
Free Meals for Students
Meals are free for students for the 22-23 school year as a result of new state funding. This entitles each student to one free breakfast and one free lunch each day. Students must take the required meal components to get a free meal. A free breakfast must include a milk, fruit and a grain. A free lunch must include 3 of these 5 meals components (Protein, Milk, Grain, Fruit and Vegetable) and one component must be a fruit or vegetable. Students must take the required meal components to get a free meal.
Individual milks, extra slices of pizza, second lunches, and a la carte items are NOT free and must be purchased. Parents should ensure ample funds are in their student’s lunch account to purchase these items.
Adding Breakfast Availability at All Schools
Breakfast will be available at all schools starting this year. Breakfast will be available during the morning arrival time and before the start of the school day.
Free and Reduced Priced Meal Application—Why Apply?
Although meals are free for all students regardless of income, we encourage families who would otherwise qualify for free or reduced price meals [based upon household income/economic need] to complete the Free/Reduced Price Meal Application so as to potentially be eligible for free or reduced fees for busing, Extended School Care, or athletics. Click here to access that form.
Students Must Use the Pin-Pad System
Students must use their pin-pad in order to receive a free meal and/or purchase an a la carte item. This is how the district documents meals distributed and substantiates our claim for reimbursement from the government.
