Flashlight Friday in Mrs. Cooney's class is a fun way to enjoy our favorite books.

Thanks to the members of the Sandwich Fire Department for the safety sessions for our 3rd grade students. We look forward to having you back to speak to our 6th grade students too.

This week in 6th grade they implemented a new earth science lesson where the students acted as paleontologists by unearthing fossils and had to reconstruct them to figure out the organism they had uncovered. The classrooms were full of engagement, scientific discussion and inquiry!

This week the PTA will hold the Fall Scholastic Book Fair on Tuesday and Wednesday during school. There will be a Family Night on Wednesday from 5-7pm.

We are looking forward to the Fun Run on October 25th. This event is the most important fundraiser for the PTA and supplies the PTA with the funds to support grade level grants, classroom materials, cultural events, family social events, and more. Please check out the attached flyer on how to support this event.

Since we have reached our first fundraiser milestone, our front office staff dressed up in costume to greet the students as they arrived at school. Keep it going everyone!

The Sandwich Arts Alliance has graciously provided a space at their location in the "old town hall" toward a rotating exhibit of student work, spanning grades k-12. Along with the help of all art teachers in district and high school interns I have been gathering work to be part of the first round of this Young Artist Gallery. High school students will be working with me and the Sandwich Arts Alliance over the course of the week to learn the process of preparing a gallery space, including matting, framing and hanging all of the work.

The first show will officially open to the public next Tuesday, October 15. The Sandwich Arts Alliance will also host a reception for the artists and their families on Wednesday, October 23 from 5:30-7.

We are really excited for this opportunity to further highlight our talented artists in the community and provide many of our students their first chance to be displayed in a professional gallery setting.
