Weekly Inspiration
Something To Make You Laugh or Smile
Thank you so much for everyone who came out and supported the boys' soccer team at Semi-State this weekend. While the Cardinals were not able to pull off the upset, they felt your love and support. One of our student managers said, "I can't believe how many people came!" Then after the game, I watched as 4 teachers spoke to a player saying how proud they were of him. While I loved the conversation and interaction, I was watching his parents beam with pride as they saw the love his teacher have for their son. Being there and showing up matters to kids AND their parents. THANK YOU for all that you do both inside and outside of the classroom for your "kids"!
Southport Cardinal posters and decor overtook Coach Stroup's classroom at Perry Meridian Middle School!
Something to Make You Think or Grow
If we want to thrive - we need to focus on what we CAN CONTROL and BELIEVE in YOURSELF. Don't listen to what others tell us we or our students CAN'T do..... we will PROVE THEM WRONG!

Mr. Brown
Mr. Brown's PE 2 students are learning the lifelong sport and skills of golf. The students identified the key elements and tactics needed to putt and chip. The students are then having fun while gaining strategies to continue a sport well past high school.

Mrs. Ferguson
Mrs. Ferguson's AP Pre-Calculus class are working in pairs to work through the problems. Students are talking to each other about what happens when the focus is negative and struggling through the content together. On the board are courses to consider for next year in Math and which careers align to those courses.
Mrs. Walpole
Mrs. Walpole's students were working through guided notes for argumentation. The students are focused on their sheets that are to be completed before they leave. The students support each other and help explain the assignment to one another, asking questions back and forth.
Mrs. Osburn
Mrs. Osburn is instructing on literary devices - Light vs. Dark, Symbolic archetypes. They discussed what could environments represent such as water, the desert, or mountains. Students then had a chance to work through archetypes on their own before regathering to share the examples they came up with. Then, the class moved to archetype characters. Finally, the assignment is for students to select a favorite pop movie, tv show, book, or
story to analyze archetypes.
Greg Hall
Mr. Hall's class was creating a mood writing assignment with images provided. Students were to choose one and write a 2-3 page story focused on developing mood. Successfully created moods include: strong word choice, unique style, a defined lens. Some students provide each other with initial feedback on how effective their mood is in their draft. Mr. Hall also checked student to student, checking-in on progress and providing questions to spur student thinking regarding their story and mood.
Anna Long
Anna Long’s EL class is reading a story about Jose and a food truck. The class identified by highlighting vocabulary words from the story and discussed them so they could understand the meaning. They then focused on answering their questions of who, where, why, what, and how. The students had to write their responses in complete sentences. Ms. Long is modeling the complete sentences on the board after the students answered them aloud.
Kelly Harmon
Kelly Harmon’s newcomer literacy class is working on irregular words and spelling them on white boards individually. She then gave individual feedback to the students. Some words the small group is working to spell are the words: goes, says, their (like their pen), were.... The English language is really confusing! The students then began reading sentences together to identify the different sounds with “th” in words (voiced and unvoiced “th” sounds).
Officer Patterson
