Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of September 24, 2023
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Dear EHTHS Families,
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming #EHT Pride Festival on Saturday, September 30th. Rain or shine, this event promises a day filled with exciting high school sporting events, a spectacular band performance, a tantalizing array of food trucks, and a wide variety of vendors. Join us for a day celebrating the very best the EHT School District and community have to offer.
Here's the schedule of events for the day’s sporting events:
10 a.m. Varsity & JV Girls Soccer, AMS vs. FMS Girls Soccer and AMS vs. FMS
Field Hockey
11:30 a.m. Varsity & JV Boys Soccer, JV Volleyball and AMS vs. FMS Boys Soccer
12 p.m. JV Field Hockey and Varsity Volleyball
1:30 p.m. Varsity Field Hockey
6 p.m. Varsity Football - All students must show ID (either their actual ID card or
their Infinite Campus face sheet on their phone) in order to enter the game. All Middle School students must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. No spectators will be permitted to enter the game after the second quarter.
We also want to extend our heartfelt congratulations to senior Ranajoy Gupta, a computer science student and member of FBLA. Ranajoy had the incredible opportunity to attend the NJ Governor's School of Engineering and Technology over the summer. During his time at Governor's school, Ranajoy and his team undertook a research project that they subsequently submitted for publication. We are immensely proud to share that their work was accepted and they have been invited to present at the IEEE MIT Undergraduate Research Technology Conference in October. Ranajoy's achievement is truly amazing!
In other news, the Cape Atlantic Unified Sports season began with two thrilling games against Mainland and Cedar Creek. In their first game against Mainland, the Eagles showed remarkable resilience, battling back from a 0-3 deficit to end the game in a thrilling 3-3 tie. The Unified Eagles continued their winning streak in the second game against Cedar Creek, with some excellent goalkeeping and a last-minute goal, securing a 4-3 victory. The Unified team is gearing up for their next match on Tuesday, October 3, at 11 a.m. at Cedar Creek.
Additionally, our Tennis team celebrated Senior Day by honoring their five outstanding seniors. The team achieved an impressive 5-0 sweep against OLMA, making it a fantastic way to honor and celebrate our seniors.
Next week, services will be held for Social Studies teacher, Mr. Winkler. The visitation hours will be on Monday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 9 - 11 a.m., with a service to follow. For more details, please visit https://www.wimbergfuneralhome.com/.
On Wednesday, October 4, the Athletic Department will host "Meet the Winter Coaches Night" in the auditorium. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Mr. Rutledge at rutledgek@eht.k12.nj.us. This evening is an excellent opportunity to learn more about our winter sports programs and the expectations for the upcoming season. We hope to see you there!
Thursday, October 5, the girls Winter Track Team will hold an interest meeting in Ms. Vazquez's room (E110) immediately after school. Students in attendance will have the option to take the 3:20 bus home after the meeting. If you have any questions about this meeting, please feel free to email Ms. Vazquez at vasqueze@eht.k12.nj.us.
Finally, on Tuesday, October 3, we will have a half-day for High School students only. This decision was made to provide adequate teacher coverage so staff members can attend Mr. Winkler's services. We know this half day may be difficult for students involved in afterschool activities and sports. Coaches and advisors will communicate with the students the plan established for students with transportation difficulties. We understand that schedule changes can be inconvenient and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and flexibility in this matter.
We look forward to a fantastic #EHT Pride festival and hope to see you at these upcoming events!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Ms. Carugno

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT
Upstanders of the Week
Student Name: Brandon Beswick
Nominating Staff Member: Leslie Volpe
Brandon attended his first day in my class in one period, his schedule changed to a different period the second day. He came up to me after class to show me that he had all the answers correct (a quiz about the teacher) he was proud that he had remembered, but he hadn't wanted to make anyone feel bad in the class by letting them know. This was such a beautiful act of kindness.
Student Name: Jasmine Chen
Nominating Staff Member: Tom Biggins
Found a cell phone in the bathroom and turned it in to staff. Student who lost phone arrived shortly thereafter to retrieve phone.
Reed's Farm FIeld Trip
Students visited Reed's Farm on a recent field trip.
Tennis Senior Night
our Tennis team celebrated Senior Day by honoring their five outstanding seniors. The team achieved an impressive 5-0 sweep against OLMA, making it a fantastic way to honor and celebrate our seniors.

Our STAGE/TECH CREW is hard at work DESIGNING our sets: they've read the scripts, conferred with our Director and are spec'ing out our sets from scratch! Check out below how our students have fun using theater to acquire and practice valuable job skills!
CLIMATE AND CULTURE
#DAY 1
The High School will be continuing with this bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams.
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
