It is hard to believe that this will be our last "JK Community Newsletter" for this school year. Our students in 3rd through 6th grade are getting ready for the CAASPP Assessment (State Test) that will begin on May 5th. Now more than ever, it is extremely important for our students not to miss school. The state test will take approximately four weeks to complete. We have sent notices out with the dates of our testing window and also ideas on how to help prepare your child to do well on the state test. This is when our scholars are able to show everything they have learned this school year.

On Friday, May 2nd, we will have a BMX for our students to Kick-Off our state testing and also for our 100% Attendance Challenge Day. We have been working diligently to decrease our Chronic Absenteeism. Last school year, 40.5% of our students were chronically absent, which means they missed more than 18 days in one school year.

Also, next week, May 5th - May 9th, it is "Staff Appreciation Week" and will be celebrating all of our staff. We have sent out a flyer on how you are able to show them some appreciation. We thank all of our staff for putting students first and meeting all of their needs. We also want to thank all of you for all of your support this school year. Don't forget, the last day of school is June 10th. Both days, June 9th and June 10th are minimum days. We will also be sending information home about our 6th Grade Promotion as the date approaches. If you have not yet done so and would like your child to attend Summer School, please inquire with their teacher so that a form can be sent home.

Es difícil creer que este será nuestro último "Boletín Comunitario de JK" de este año escolar. Nuestros estudiantes de tercer a sexto grado se están preparando para el examen estatal CAASPP que comenzará el 5 de mayo. Ahora más que nunca, es extremadamente importante que nuestros estudiantes no falten a la escuela. El examen estatal tomará aproximadamente cuatro semanas para completarse. Hemos enviado avisos con las fechas del periodo de exámenes, así como ideas sobre cómo ayudar a preparar a su hijo para que tenga un buen desempeño en el examen. Este es el momento en el que nuestros estudiantes pueden demostrar todo lo que han aprendido durante el año escolar.El viernes 2 de mayo tendremos un espectáculo de BMX para nuestros estudiantes como inicio de los exámenes estatales y también para nuestro Reto de Asistencia del 100%. Hemos estado trabajando diligentemente para reducir el ausentismo crónico. El año escolar pasado, el 40.5% de nuestros estudiantes estuvieron crónicamente ausentes, lo cual significa que faltaron más de 18 días durante el año escolar.

Además, la próxima semana, del 5 al 9 de mayo, es la "Semana de Agradecimiento al Personal" y estaremos celebrando a todo nuestro personal. Hemos enviado un volante con ideas sobre cómo puede mostrarles su agradecimiento. Agradecemos a todo nuestro personal por poner a los estudiantes en primer lugar y por satisfacer todas sus necesidades. También queremos agradecerles a ustedes por todo su apoyo durante este año escolar.

No lo olviden, el último día de clases es el 10 de junio. Tanto el 9 como el 10 de junio serán días mínimos. También estaremos enviando información a casa sobre la Ceremonia de Promoción de 6º grado a medida que se acerque la fecha. Si aún no lo ha hecho y desea que su hijo asista a la Escuela de Verano, por favor comuníquese con su maestro para que se le pueda enviar un formulario a casa.

🛑A quick reminder:
For student safety, please make sure you are dropping off your child in the designated drop-off area in front of the school. If you need to drop off a student on the side of the school, a valid disability placard is required.

To ensure a smooth drop-off, students should be ready to exit the vehicle quickly and independently. If you prefer to walk your child to the entrance gate, please park in the parking lot before doing so.

Once your child has exited the vehicle, please move forward to allow other cars to enter. Additionally, when leaving the drop-off zone, remember that only right turns are permitted.

FRONT OF SCHOOL DROP OFF AND PICK UP:

🕗 Arrive early. Our bell rings at 8:15am and our gate closes at 8:15am. Once the gate is closed, students will need to enter through the office.

🚗 If you are in the car drop off/pick up, please remain in your vehicle and pull forward when the line moves. Your student should be ready to exit the vehicle when dropping off and ready to enter the vehicle when picking up.

JOHN KELLEY WEST:

🚌 We have many buses dropping off and picking up students at our John Kelley West location. If you are dropping off or picking up your student in that area, please make sure to park in a parking spot and walk your student to and from the gate.

***Must have Disabled Person placard or Disabled Person license plate to park in Disability Accessible Parking (blue sign with wheelchair symbol)

🚌 Tenemos muchos autobuses dejando y recogiendo a alumnos en el area oeste de John Kelley. Si usted esta dejando al alumno o recogiendo al alumno, favor de asegura de estacionarse en un estacionamiento y caminar al alumno del carro a la puerta o de la puerta al carro.

In the event of an emergency admin, law enforcement and district administration will work together to secure the campus and ensure student and staff safety. During these times, parent communication is very important as so please be sure to have your Parent Portal updated to ensure that your contact information is up to date.

The safety and well-being of our students is always the priority within our school and district . We conduct fire, earthquake, shelter in place and lockdown drills throughout the year. Our objective is for all students and staff to practice what to do in case of an emergency.
