5 Things to Help Anxiety
Dear Salish Coast Families,
Technology undoubtedly offers numerous benefits and opportunities for learning and growth. However, it also poses certain risks, especially when children are left unsupervised while using technology.
There are several potential dangers associated with unsupervised technology use, including exposure to inappropriate content, online predators, cyberbullying, and excessive screen time leading to negative effects on physical and mental health. As educators and parents, it's crucial that we work together to equip our children with the knowledge and skills to navigate the digital world safely and responsibly.
To help address these concerns, we encourage you to have open and honest conversations with your children about the responsible use of technology. Set clear guidelines and boundaries regarding screen time, establish rules for safe online behavior, and regularly monitor their online activities. Additionally, consider implementing parental controls and filters on devices to limit access to inappropriate content. This screen time planning tool can be a helpful tool in setting boundaries with your child regarding screen time: Screen Time Planning
Later this spring Salish Coast will be introducing a campaign called Wait until 8th that encourages taking a pledge to wait until 8th grade to get a smartphone. There are many reasons to wait for getting a smartphone: Why Wait for a Smartphone
We appreciate your partnership with us in ensuring our children are supervised with their technology and smartphone use, as well as given appropriate boundaries and limits, to ensure their safety and well-being.
Sincerely,
Lisa Condran

Seasonal Allergies
It is spring and pollen is in the air! Pollen counts have been high this month and many of us are feeling it.
For people with hay fever, also known as “allergic rhinitis,” breathing in pollen can cause sneezing, congestion, and a runny nose. Pollen exposure can also result in “allergic conjunctivitis” in some individuals, causing red, watery, or itchy eyes.
Pollen exposure can also cause asthma attacks in people who have asthma and for whom pollen is an asthma trigger.
Please help students with hay fever and asthma learn how to take measures such as not rubbing their eyes, washing hands and face after being outside, showering at the end of the day, and wearing laundered clothes daily if possible.

AAUW Scholarship Winner
Salish Coast Elementary is so proud of Ashley Quinn who is the recipient of the AAUW scholarship for $11,000. To receive this scholarship Ashley had to write an essay, collect recommendations, and interview. Ashley is one of our amazing secretaries and she is currently working on getting her Masters in Counseling. She has been taking classes while working at the school and demonstrating on a daily basis the skills she is learning.
Congratulations Ashley!
Love your Salish Coast Family
