Advisory Lessons
Twice a month we have advisory lessons where we teach a wide variety of skills and positive character traits. The curriculum we use is called Ripple Effects. It is designed to support students by providing social emotional skill building and promote positive behavioral and mental health. Below you will find examples of our most recent lessons.
- Asking For Help
- Disruptions
One of our goals this year is to ensure that every student has at least one staff member they feel comfortable talking with. We want all students to feel safe physically and socially and emotionally. To ensure we reach our goal, our teachers and staff greet students at the door and welcome them to Monticello. During those brief interactions, our teachers get to know their students on a more personalized basis. They can tell when a student is having a good day and when they are struggling. Our staff works together to ensure that we are providing the necessary resources and supports to help all of our students be successful.
During the advisory on October 16th, our students will take a short survey. They will be asked if there is a staff member that they feel comfortable talking with. They will have a similar survey in the spring to help us monitor our progress and see if we succeeded in helping all students feel connected to Monticello. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
Red Ribbon Week
Oct 21st -25th
During our Oct 16th advisory, students will learn strategies for living a drug free life. They will listen to Donald Brown, a former NFL player, describe the Natural High he gets from playing football. Students will be asked to reflect on the activities that they enjoy that give them a 'Natural High'.
We want our students and families to know that Ms. Jodi is available to support students that may be affected by substance abuse. Sometimes our students have friends that are affected, family members or even themselves. If you are interested in having your child talk with Ms. Jodi, please give us a call at 360-575-7058.
Also, we highly encourage you to view this fentanyl video, linked below, with your child. We did not show this video at school, but want parents to be aware. The nation, is seeing an increasing trend in fentanyl use and deaths caused by it. We will also have a fentanyl presentation on November 13th right before our Family Bingo Night.
Positive Behavior Social
Oct 25th Social
Our teachers will have a variety of activities that students can choose to participate in such as a halloween contest, bingo, karoake, movie, jeopardy, board games and other fun activities. If a student is planning on entering the halloween costume contest, they need to get approval for their costume in advance. Also, costumes will only be worn during the social.

ATTENDANCE
Last year at Monticello, we only had 63.5% of our students attending the state recommended number of days (90% or more). Our goal this year is to improve to 73.5%. We need your help!
- It is very important that your student is in class every day when healthy.
- If a student arrives late to school, they need to check in with the attendance secretary in the office to to get a note before walking to class. The secretary will make sure the attendance is corrected in skyward.
- If a student is marked absent, parents/guardians will receive a phone call notifying them of the absence. If there is an error, please call our attendance office 360-575-7041.
- If your child is ill and unable to attend, we ask that you notify the office.
- If you know that your child is going to be absent from school in advance, please contact our office. We have a protocol for students that are going to be out of school for multiple days.
- If you are planning to pick your child up early, please contact our office at least one hour in advance so that we can make sure they are in the office when you arrive.
