Booster-Thon
In November, we kicked off the Booster-Thon on the 13th to raise money for new playground equipment. Our initial goal was $6,000, and within just a few days, we surpassed that goal! So, we raised the target to $12,000, and with each new milestone, we had fun challenges for the students.
When we hit $2,400, Ms. Snooks had to be duct-taped to the wall—and we reached that goal! Next, we aimed for $3,600 for Ms. Mills to kiss a pig, and of course, we reached that too! Our final goal was $6,000, and when we reached it, Mrs. Shaw was going to get SLIMED—and yes, we hit that goal as well!
Thanks to the incredible generosity of families from 34 states and 4 countries, we ended up raising a total of $21,000 in donations! We can't thank you all enough for your support. You are all truly amazing!
Recap of November
Wow, November really flew by! I can’t believe we’re already at the end of 2024. So much has happened over the past couple of months, but let’s take a moment to recap November.
We kicked off the month with Spirit Day, the flu clinic, and the Kindness Squad partnered with Feed the City for a food drive. Our original goal was to collect 800 boxes of Jiffy cornbread mix—and we surpassed it by collecting over 900 boxes! Then, we had an incredible STEM night with the Museum of Aviation, and that Starlab experience was absolutely amazing—what a highlight! We wrapped up the month with our School-Wide Fun Run for the Booster-Thon. We also had a fun underground spirit week for the staff. What a month it has been!
PBIS/Behavioral Tips
Every teacher has their own unique way of managing behaviors, often using a special catchphrase or technique. Some may count down from 5, use the "silent llama," say "catch your bubble," clap their hands three times, remind students to have a "calm body, calm mind," or speak very quietly to see if anyone can hear them. Do these methods work? Most of the time, yes! You can try these at home to see if they work for you, and it will also help your child become familiar with them for when they are in class.
We also have a voice level scale in the classroom, the hallway, and the restroom ranging from voice level 0 to voice level 3, to help guide students' communication.
Every quarter, we host a PBIS Celebration, and this month’s celebration is a Glow Party! To attend the PBIS Celebration, students must meet certain guidelines—specifically, they can't have any Office referrals, no In-School-Suspension, and no Out-of-School-Suspension during the quarter.
