Longhorn News
If you haven't heard, your student slid into their House on Friday. It was a crazy fun day. The houses represent characteristics that Polly Ryon holds dear to it's heart.
Altruismo is the house of GIVERS. They give everything in everything they do.
Reveur is the house of dreamers. They dream big ideas and then make it happen with hard work.
Isibindi is the house of courage. They stand up for what is right and have the courage to do things they have never done.
Amistad is the house of friendship. They hold a standard that all people are created equal and friendship is the path to success.
Each student has been given a lanyard and ID with a plastic case. This is to be with them at all times when on the campus. This is Mandatory for safety and will be a requirement through the entire maroon track.
Important Information
~ GREAT NEWS! Except for a couple of outliers, 6th grade students for the 19-20 school year will be riding with only 6th graders. You read this correctly, transportation has aligned 6th grade routes for 6th grade students. Please note that some buses will have to be neighborhood based, but for the most part, the seats will be filled with our kiddos. So with this, I am asking that you place your student on the bus for school AND when you see someone from transportation, say a quick, "Thank You."

Beginning of the YEAR FORMS
RMS Heart and Soul Program:
We are excited to begin our 7th annual journey with Heart & Sole for Ryon Middle School.
The Heart & Sole program is the middle school years version of the nationwide “Girls on the Run” program. This is a motivational program that teaches girls to "keep pushing forward", the program gives girls the strategies they may need to overcome struggles that we all face. We would love to have your girl participate with us. Please take a few minutes to look at the attached flyers, registration cost sheet as well as the websites. Registration is now open and active for the lottery process if you are interested.
- We will have 12 girls on a team
- We will meet twice a week for 10 weeks
- Practice will be held on Monday's and Thursday's from 4:00pm - 5:30pm
- There will be a end of program 5K in December

CANVAS, CANVAS, CANVAS
All secondary students will be using the Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas is a digital tool that allows teachers, students, and parents a single platform for accessing a variety of educational resources online, all in one location. Canvas will be a resource for teacher and campus, including due dates for students’ exams and projects through the Canvas calendar feature. All students will be trained on Canvas basics through English classes. More information on Canvas can be found at lcisd.org by clicking the Canvas icon.
Technology training is an ongoing process at RMS…as technology plays a big role in enriching our curriculum for every content. Your kids will become “tech wizards” and will be able to assist you with just about anything by the end of 6th grade! Please keep in mind this is a responsibility “shift” for kids coming out of elementary and will take time get good at it! What I need from you is to be patient and ready to hold them accountable (even when it’s hard) for learning it and using it…it will make both of your lives easier as they travel up the secondary path! As we push out programs and expectations with your kids, we will be sure to include “guidance” for how parents can support them, we are all about the growth mindset, as that's where the real learning takes place! If you are anything like me, you need may need a cheat sheet (or two) since this might be out of your comfort zone, but no worries, by working together as a unified team "WE GOT THIS"!
If you need any assistance, we are always a front office visit, phone call, or email away! Our office hours are Monday-Friday from 7:30-4:00 and our phone number is 832-223-4500. You can also email Mrs. Camacho, RMS Clerk, at lcamacho@lcisd.org for further assistance. She can get you to right person!
Communication is KEY
We strive to return all emails and phone calls within 24 business hours. Sometimes we miss something, so please feel free to resend or give us another call, and we will get you taken care of as soon as possible. 832-223-4500
Callout/Email Blast: The callout/email blast system will be utilized to communicate with you every week to give you a heads up of what is coming up at PRMS. (“PRMS Longhorn News”). If you did not receive it for some reason please check your spam and junk mail, as this has happened quite a bit in the past. If you have checked both those spots and you still are not receiving it please email Lidia Camacho lcamacho@lcisd.org or call her at 832-223-4500 and she will begin investigating the cause and work on finding a solution.
~90% of communication from RMS will come via email on Sunday, that’s why it is very important to have all current email addresses in Skyward.
Family Access: Family Access is a free service and will be available to all parents and guardians with children enrolled in the District. Family Access is a secure Internet-based website that allows parents and guardians to easily track their students’ progress. Among other things, this new service will allow you to view student attendance, grades, schedule, progress and assignments. To log-in or if you have forgotten your password, go to: http://www.lcisd.org/students-parents/family-access to get information on how to access this great service.

RCO Information
Invitation to join the RCO!
The RCO (Ryon Community Organization) is the parent organization that works to raise funds to support Polly Ryon students and staff. We are very excited to start this year! We have several fun events planned, and we would love your help! One advantage of your RCO membership is that you will always get the opportunity to sign up to volunteer first. You can volunteer in many ways, even if you are not able to come to the school during the day. If you didn’t have a chance to sign up at the Scavenger Hunt last week, there is still time!
The RCO supports Polly Ryon in a number of essential ways. Here are just a few of the items the RCO has provided:
- Golf Cart
- 3D printer
- Budget for magic days
- Charging carts for iPads
- Props and costumes for school plays
- Monthly luncheons for the teachers and staff
- Covered patio on a concrete slab so the students can go outside
- Walkie talkies to communicate between Polly Ryon and George Ranch (great for security reasons, power outages, etc.)
The RCO Board meets monthly and will work with Mr. Croft to determine how we can best help our students and Polly Ryon this year, and leave a legacy for years to come. The meetings are open to the public, or if you would like to submit ideas, please email pollyryonrco@gmail.com
Please see the membership form attached. You can join the RCO for $10, or save yourself time and money by purchasing a discounted yearbook bundle. Limited edition t-shirts for boys, girls, and parents are also available. You can print the form and return it to the front office, and payments of cash, check, and credit card are accepted. (Please review the attached form for all details.)
Thank you considering a commitment to support our students and school. When we work together, there is no limit to the MAGIC we can create!
Claudia Elder
RCO President
Schedules/ Changes
- We will NOT be making any schedule changes unless it is an internal error on our side. If you feel there is an error on our side, please email Beth Yockey (alpha-split A-K) at byockey@lcisd.org or Melissa Winn (alpha-split L-Z) at mwinn@lcisd.org. We will look into it by the end of the first week.
- We tried VERY HARD to honor your student's Electives request for their 1st and 2nd choice, unfortunately due to some of your students own scheduling constraints they may have received their 3rd choice. This is a year of beginners and trying new things...they always have the option to try a new elective in 7th grade. Please be open minded and encouraging as begin a year FULL of firsts for each of them!
