Safety Drills
Starting next week, our school will begin conducting the state-required safety drills, including Fire, Lockdown, and Severe Weather drills. Rest assured that all of our staff are thoroughly trained, and we have numerous security measures in place to ensure everyone's safety within the building.
Before our Lockdown drill, we will send a notification home so you can discuss this important exercise with your child and help them feel prepared.
As always, we encourage our entire school community to embrace the "See Something, Say Something" approach to maintain a safe environment for everyone.
The safety and well-being of every student and staff member is our highest priority!
Chromebooks
All students need to obtain a district-issued Chromebook or bring a computer device from home. There are no devices available for checkout at the school. Students use devices daily in their classes.
What are the advantages of a district-issued Chromebook?
1. Ease of connectivity. The student will open the machine and, within 15 seconds or so, connect to one of the dedicated wireless networks.
2. Avoid account confusion. Students can only use their district Google account on these devices. There is no confusion about why a student doesn’t have access to a file or activity.
3. Support. With the district-issued device, students get exclusive access to the WLCSD “Geek Squad”. If they have a hardware issue, they will have access to a loaner machine while their device is in for service.
4. Apps/Programs created for schools. There are several programs teachers like to use that can only be accessed on a school-issued device.
What is needed to obtain a Chromebook?
1. Two Signed Documents. Families need to complete the Insurance form and Handbook Contract Signature page. The contract is the signature page from the 8-page handbook.
2. Payment. All Chromebooks require a $50 deposit. This will be returned once the student leaves the district upon graduation or transfer provided the Chromebook is returned in good condition. Additionally, a family can choose to purchase an optional $20 Insurance Coverage per year. This covers accidental damage, including a broken screen. If there is a financial hardship, costs can be reduced by 50%.
Forms will be available at Curriculum Night.

Grand Re-Opening Celebration
Please join us on September 24th at 5:00 pm for a Grand Re-Opening Celebration of the new Academic Wing at Western. There will be a brief ceremony, then the building will be open for the community to tour. We hope to see you there!
Locker Update
The new academic wing is in the process of installing locks. At this time there is not an estimate for installation but we are hoping by the end of September. If a student wants a locker, they should go to the main office to complete the form to have a locker assigned. We will ask for the students 1st & 6th hours to assign a locker near one of those classrooms.
For the foreseeable future, students should bring a backpack/small bag with basic school supplies and their CHARGED DEVICE every day. If you need assistance acquiring school supplies and/or a backpack, please contact the counseling office at 248-956-4440.
We apologize for any inconvenience that has caused.
