LSE's Robotics Club
On Saturday, January 25th, LSE will bring three teams to compete in the Roar of the Robots. The event will take place during the day at West Middle School in Westminster, Maryland. The event usually runs from around 10 am – 4 pm and is free to attend. Our 5th graders have been coding and creating a plan to solve real-world problems since the beginning of the school year. We are very excited to watch them compete and share their projects with the judges and community.
Our three teams consist of a total of 24 fifth graders. Mrs. Hudspeth and Mrs. Shanabarger wish these teams the best of luck! Let’s meet our teams:
News from the Art Room
We are very excited to welcome Amanda Baker back to the art room. Amanda was an intern from McDaniel. She joined Ms. Crum-Derr earlier this year in the art room. She will be back to student teach in January. We are very excited for the new projects she brings to share with the students. The projects are a secret until she gets here and reveals them to the students so be sure to ask your little artist what they are working on in art this winter.
News from the Cafeteria
Helping to Feed All in Carroll County
Families experiencing financial difficulty can apply at any time during the school year for free or reduced-price meals at www.myschoolapps.com. Despite this, many families who do not qualify have challenges making ends meet and charge meals at school. If you would like to donate to reduce this burden on families at your child’s school or any school with a need in Carroll County here is how you can make an unpaid meal charge donation to CCPS.
At the School Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt at a particular school location can send a check made out to the school with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
At the Central Office Level:
Those wishing to send funds to reduce unpaid meal debt can send a check made out to Carroll County Public Schools with School Meal Debt Donation written on the memo line.
Checks must be mailed to:

News from the Media Center
2024 Book Fair
We would like to thank all the students, staff and parents that volunteered their time to make our book fair such a success this year. Your purchases enable us to provide new books for the media center and subscriptions to online databases such as World Book Online, BookFlix, PebbleGo, PebbleGo Next and many others for students to use for research. Due to your generosity, we were able to provide over $350 worth of books to students who otherwise would not have been able to purchase a book and over $500 of gift certificates to teachers to enhance their classroom libraries.
LSE Reads 2025
Be on the lookout for our 2025 book to come home on the last day of this month. We are very excited for our entire school to be reading together again. A reading guide will be emailed home as well as a packet with family discussion questions, vocabulary words and activities for each chapter at that time. The culminating activity will be held at the Eldersburg Public Library on Friday, February 28th from 6 – 8 PM.
Nominations for CCPS Outstanding Teacher Awards
The Carroll County Chamber of Commerce and the Carroll County Public School System are seeking nominations for the annual Outstanding Teacher Awards. The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
The Outstanding Teacher Awards recognize the teachers of the Carroll County Public School System who represent excellence in the profession. Any full-time teacher, including specialists and resource teachers, in the Carroll County Public School System is eligible for nomination.
Any parent, student, fellow teacher, supervisor, school administrator, or community member may submit a nomination. Please click on the link below to access the online nomination form:
Nominators are urged to nominate teacher(s) who exemplify the very best of the education profession and explain why their nominee deserves this recognition. Each nominated teacher will be notified of the nomination and asked to complete a brief biographical form.
Outdoor Recess & Student Dress
We strive to be outside as much as possible, weather permitting. With the winter season quickly approaching and temperatures falling, we strongly encourage all students to dress warmly for outdoor recess.
Hats, gloves, and coats are highly recommended--even for those who insist on wearing shorts in the snow! :)
Please be sure that all items are properly labeled so we can return missing mittens to their owners!
