Cumberland Thursday Folder
May 9, 2024
Dear Cumberland Families,
From the “Pump Up the Jam” Monday with the catered breakfast to, “The Sweetest Thing” Wednesday with the throwback candy station and everything in between and still to come, the 90s theme for Staff Appreciation Week has been a big hit! A simple "thank you" feels inadequate to express our immense gratitude. Every day, we're overwhelmed by the incredible support from our families. But during Staff Appreciation Week, it goes above and beyond. This year, as always, you showered us with heartfelt surprises and acts of kindness. The love and support from our students, families, and the best PTO anyone could ask for is truly humbling. From the depths of our hearts, thank you!
We want to congratulate our 5th grade band students who participated Tuesday evening with all 5th-12th grade students in Band-O-Rama and showcased their instrumental musical learning. It is amazing to see how this performance brings together students across the district and celebrates the progression of learning throughout the grades. Each band played several selections and all joined in for the grand finale of the Star Wars theme. A big thank you to Mr. Carson, our Band Director for emphasizing both the development of foundational skills and building our student’s confidence to play for others in their first year of band.
Our 5th graders truly went above and beyond yesterday! They rolled up their sleeves and dedicated their lunch recess to a school-wide service project. From organizing classroom libraries to sorting through materials in classrooms, they tackled every task with a smile and a can-do attitude. They even helped spruce up our school's environment by cleaning the playground and tending to the garden beds by the front entrance. This time of service wasn't just about getting things tidy; it was about fostering a sense of pride in our school community and teaching the importance of giving back. The 5th graders showed incredible teamwork and responsibility, and their efforts will benefit everyone who walks through these doors!
The excitement is building! Our Book Fair kicks off this Friday in the Great Room from 3-6 pm. It's the perfect opportunity to browse a fantastic selection of books and find some summer reading treasures for your child. Plus, by shopping at the fair, you'll be directly supporting our school's programs and resources! Don't miss out on this fun event for the whole family.
We hope to see you at the All-District Strings Festival this evening in the WFB High School Fieldhouse at 7pm!
Warm regards,
Jayne Heffron and Rebecca Salomon

Measles in Wisconsin:
We hope that this message finds you well. The District is writing to inform you of important information related to an increase in measles cases in Wisconsin.
Measles is a highly contagious respiratory virus. It is a serious infection that causes fever, cough, a rash, sore eyes, and occasionally dangerous complications. Measles spreads very easily, so it is important to protect against infection. Getting vaccinated is the best way to prevent measles. Information on the measles vaccine can be found through the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention.
It is important for you to check your student’s immunization records to make sure they have received two doses of MMR vaccine. You may check your student’s immunization record using the Wisconsin Immunization Registry (WIR). Your student’s health care provider should also have their immunization record.
To be clear, at this time, there have been no confirmed cases of measles in the Whitefish Bay School District. We encourage families to take precautions to avoid measles cases, particularly if your student is not vaccinated against the virus. Should there be a confirmed case of measles in the District, the District Nurse will work closely with the North Shore Health Department and the Wisconsin Immunization Program to determine if there is a need for those without proof of immunity to measles to be excluded.
Additional information on measles and relevant District policies are included below. Should you have any questions, please contact the District Nurse, Allison Heisler at 414-963-3989.
