As we wrap up February, we are settling into the second semester's routine. This week, we will host our Student of the Month and 8th-grade celebrations on Monday, February 24, at 3:00 p.m. We will also host the Black Parent Coalition—Black History Potluck on Wednesday from 3:30–5:00 p.m.

We will also host our 6th-grade Expectations assembly on Tuesday during the 4th period in the auditorium. The 7th-grade Expectations assembly will be scheduled for next week. These assemblies last about 30 minutes and remind all students and staff of shared school expectations.

Here are a few events as you prepare for this week at JLA:

• Girls' Basketball Game vs. Washington @ Boys/Girls Club: Monday 4:30-5:30
• 6th Grade Expectations Assembly: Tuesday, 12:10 – 12:40
• Black Parent Coalition - Black History Potluck: Wednesday, 3:30 – 5:00
• 4th Friday Spirit Day-90's Day: Friday

Thank you to all the 8th-grade families who completed their students' High School Choice Applications by the 2/21 deadline. Our JLA staff provided information and 1:1 sessions with parents during the 3-week window. This critical work allowed 92% of 8th-grade families to submit on time, allowing students to select their high school pathway choices.

When picking up your student before school dismissal, please plan to pick up your student before or after the lunch period. To support lunch supervision, all support staff are unavailable, and we will not be able to release students who are at lunch. Please plan ahead and pick up your student before or after lunch.

Parents, you have received an email from LBUSD asking you to complete the CORE Parent survey.This survey is an opportunity for families to provide feedback about the school, including how we are supporting students with their social, emotional, and academic well-being. Currently, we are at 4%; last year, our family response was 14%. Our goal is 50% by the end of the week.

Please help us reach the goal by :

• Please complete the survey by February 28. This brief survey should take only a few minutes to complete.
