Friday Family Message
Hello Families
Teacher Appreciation Week is here! We are grateful for our teachers and for the many groups that took the time to celebrate all of our wonderful educators this week.
This week, our School Board declared, through a board resolution, the importance teachers have in the lives of our students.
Take a moment to thank a teacher! Also this month, we are celebrating school librarians. We will be hearing from one of our school librarians and reading the state’s proclamation at our May 21 School Board meeting.
Thank you to our voters for ensuring we have the funds to have the necessary staffing to ensure our students' success. School building staff is one of the many things we fund with our local Education Programs and Operations Levy.

Spread the word — Kindergarten Fair is Thursday!
For incoming kindergarteners and their families, the district is hosting its annual Kindergarten Fair from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in the Stanwood High School Commons.
Families can register for kindergarten at the event or online at any time. A kindergarten student must be 5 years old prior to September 1, 2024, for the upcoming 2024-25 school year.
Meanwhile, please note that new student registration is open for the 2024-25 school year in the Stanwood-Camano School District. Families can register students new to the district online at www.stanwood.wednet.edu/welcome to find all the necessary instructions.
Collaboration at Stanwood High
Stanwood High students in five different classes are collaborating on a fun, real-world project!
Students in the school's Business English class began by creating their own food truck idea. As part of the project, the students worked with our Digital Design class to create logos and mock-up a paper version of the food truck.
Then, last week, students in our Culinary class broke into teams to cook each truck's signature dish. Our Photography class staged photo shoots of the amazing eats, and then our Marketing class will use the images for a social media advertising plan.
In all, five different Stanwood High classes working together gaining valuable experience on real-world jobs!
Thank you to our instructors for teaching the power of communication and business relationships.
Eye exams and eyeglasses
All school nurses have access to vouchers to both eye exams and eyeglasses for qualifying students, thanks to support from the National School Nurse Organization.
Don’t let your student go all summer without proper eye care or missing/broken glasses. Please contact your school nurse to see if your student qualifies for access to eye care, which includes gift certificates covering a comprehensive eye exam and, if prescribed, new glasses.
School Board update
The School Board heard an annual report from Elger Bay Elementary during its May 7 regular Stanwood-Camano School Board meeting.
The board heard the update from Elger Bay principal Tim Dickinson on the school’s Annual Action Plans.
