We loved having the Centennial High School football team on campus this morning. They welcomed the kids at carpool, buses, and even joined in on Explorervision! High fives and knuckles were such a fun and energy filled way to start the day! The Knights host North Springs at 7:30 tonight if you’re able to support our feeder high school.

Our next SGC meeting is coming up on November 1st and we will continue discussing ideas for a schoolwide plan to celebrate our commitment and dedication to fostering a love of reading. This idea has started because of conversations around our school action plan to improve reading levels for students. It is a focus from Fulton County, as well as a focus at Northwood. Stay tuned for more information on how we can increase all of our Explorers’ love of reading and instill a true lifelong love of reading.

This year the 3rd grade class will be performing in a Veteran’s Day program. We are very excited to honor our Veteran’s with this patriotic show. We will perform for the students on November 9th, and for the 3rd grade parents on November 10th, at 8 am.

The Northwood chorus has been practicing for our winter concert on December 12th. This sweet group of singers are working hard to learn and memorize a lot of songs. We will perform winter songs, Hanukkah songs, and other holiday favorites. In music class this quarter we have been reviewing and learning about rhythm symbols and patterns. We have had so much fun practicing fun rhythm patterns with various instruments. Our next unit is all about pitches and melody. We will be learning how to identify pitches and read music.

November 11th is Veteran’s Day, and we are having a performance to celebrate. We would like to invite you to post photos of your loved ones who served in the armed forces. Whether they are currently serving, have retired, or have passed on, we want to see and celebrate their bravery, sacrifice, and commitment to our country. These photos will be presented in a slideshow during the 3rd grade Veteran’s Day performance on November 9th and 10th. Please follow the link to share your photos with us. We had a great turnout for our October All Pro Dad breakfast. This month we discussed 'creativity' and tested our drawing skills. Next month we will be doing our annual can collection as we collect items for North Fulton Charities food bank. We will also be examining what contentment looks like and enjoy another prize draw supported by our PTA.

Northwood artists have been working on their artwork for our Art to Remember fundraiser. Kindergarteners made hearts, first graders made flower gardens, second graders made flowers, third graders made sun/moon designs, fourth graders made animals and fifth graders made succulent pots. You will have the opportunity to purchase a variety of products featuring your child’s artwork like magnets, mugs, keychains, and more! There are over 60 products and many are less than $15. These make great gifts and a percentage of every purchase goes right back to our school. Be on the lookout for an order form sent home with your child within the next couple of weeks or click on this link to search for your child's artwork.

Our Scholastic Book Fair will be held in the Media Center November 9-17 - mark your calendars! Book Fair is the major fundraiser for our Media Center. It is also a wonderful opportunity to purchase books as holiday gifts for your children and family, or perhaps something special for your child's teacher!

Fall Picture Retake Day is November 13th. If you are not happy with your Explorer's portraits simply have your student return their original picture package to the photographer on retake day and they will replace the set at no additional cost.

Don't forget to tell them to Smile!

The Infinite Campus Parent Portal provides quick and easy access to information for all enrolled students in their household. Find grades, attendance, assignments, schedules, ID numbers, school announcements and more. If you haven't already joined, please do so today as Fulton County Schools is transitioning to managing everything via the portal.

Parents, please encourage your students to check regularly for lost items in the Lost and Found. Please mark all student belongings clearly with the child’s name so that it can be identified. Unclaimed items are donated to local charities after the last school day of every month. October’s date is Tuesday, October 31st.
