Carleton Washburne
Monday Memo (On a Tuesday) - May 28, 2024
Washburne Families,
We hope that everyone enjoyed the long weekend. Thank you to all of our service members past and present, we are truly thankful for your sacrifice.
We have a number of activities packed into these last three weeks of school, and are excited to celebrate a great school year with our students. Friday, we were able to celebrate with our entire student body and around 100 parents and family members at our annual awards assembly. It was awesome to hear performances from our amazing Chorus, Band, and Orchestra students, as well as recognize the numerous talents of our students.
Take Care and Be Well,
Andrew Fenton & Ben Horwitz
Carleton Washburne Principal & Assistant Principal

What’s Happening in Related Studies
In this section we will be shining the spotlight on our Related Studies program and all the wonderful opportunities available to our Washburne students.
The Creative Writing students are putting the finishing touches on their fiction stories. With this assignment, they had free reign to write in any genre, and the story ideas are as diverse as the students. They feature love triangles, feudal Japan, a thrilling zombie apocalypse, and a sci-fi mystery! We will celebrate the end of the trimester by reading each other’s stories.

“Winnetka Voices” Season 2, Episode #6: Crow Island School at 85
Crow Island School, an internationally recognized beacon of Progressive Education, turns 85-years-old in 2025. Dr. Kelly Tess, Superintendent, reflects on the school’s enduring legacy with Dr. Luke Livingston, current Principal, and Dr. Julie Pfeffer, who served as Principal for 11 years. Listeners will also receive a review of extensive renovations that will occur in 2024-2025, retaining the building’s original historic details but, as Dr. Pfeffer notes, “allowing Crow Island to grow into the future so students and teachers can be their best.”
