Dear VUSD Families,
The Special Education Family Newsletter is a monthly newsletter, brought to you by the VUSD Special Education team, full of special education information and parent workshops. This month we have a great opportunity to nominate someone special, please help nominate a special staff member, parent, or community partner for the NCCSE Excellence in Special Education Awards. There are also two scholarship opportunities for high school seniors.

Extended School Year (ESY) 2025
ESY DATES: June 9, 2025 - July 3, 2025 (no school 6/19 & 7/4). Locations: Cal Ave, VATC, Elementary, Middle and High School site are to be determined.
ESY APPLICATIONS:
ESY Applications for eligible students will be emailed home to families by the Special Education Department on March 13, 2025, with a return date of March 28, 2025.

āJoin us to learn about the San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) and their Coordinated Career Pathways program, which supports individuals with developmental disabilities in achieving their career goals. Plus, explore upcoming events and resources from the Exceptional Family Resource Center (EFRC) for families of students with learning differences and disabilities.

Thank someone special who has made a difference in the lives of children with special needs by making a nomination!
Nominees are those individuals who foster academic and social inclusion so that all students, including students with disabilities, can fully participate in the curriculum, activities, or communities with their general education peers.
You can nominate more than once for different categories. Nominations must be received by March 11, 2025. The awards will be presented at the NCCSE CAC Awards Ceremony, taking place on May 2025.
Submit your nominations from January 21, 2025, to March 11, 2025
Scholarships for High School Seniors
- The Dr. Lynnette Robinson Scholarship for Inclusive Education - For high school seniors who want to pursue a career in special education or a related field. A scholarship award of $1500 for up to 4 years.
- The Bob Grundstrom Memorial Scholarship - For high school seniors who receive special education services. A one-time scholarship award of $1500.

Special Education Transportation
If your child qualifies for transportation during the school year per their IEP, and you require transportation please make sure you have fill out a new transportation form for the 2024-25 school year and return the form to the special education department.
If you recently submitted a transportation form please allow 5-10 business days for the student to be routed.
Bus routes will be confirmed by the transportation department the day before the student is ready to be routed.

***Just a reminder that not all students qualify for transportation.***
