Mission Statement
St. Maria Goretti is a living testament to our Lord's work in His youngest disciples, exemplified by academic excellence, spiritual formation, and compassionate service to others.
St. Maria Goretti Catholic School aims to form what is True, Good, and Beautiful in the souls of our young disciples of Christ.
Principal's Message
Dear St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Families,
Thank you for making GorettiFest a huge success. A BIG thank you to Matt Lester and his team for planning and running this event. We will share information on how we did with the community when we get the final numbers.
During the month of October, the month of the rosary, the school will pray a rosary together every Monday morning. All are welcome to attend. Please sign in at the front office before coming to the cafetorium.
Every Wednesday all students are required to wear their cardigan sweater to Mass with the circular crest patch on the left side. The pull over sweater or sweater vest is not correct Mass uniform, nor are the old patches. We do have patches for sale in the front office if you need one.
Wednesday we are having an open house to show off all of the wonderful things our school is doing. Please invite anyone you may know who would be interested on our school.
Parent conferences will be held on October 25, 2024, see the Sign-Up Genius below. At this conference you will receive the 1st quarter report card. I am hopeful we will have the IOWA/COGAT/CLT scores to share at this time.
Remember you need to meet with your child's HOMEROOM teacher. If you would like to meet with another teacher please email them to set up a conference time. If they have times open on the 25th they will let you know, or set up a time to meet that is convenient for everyone.
It is with a heavy heart that I share Mr. Jim Miller, aka Coach, died on October 4th. Coach and his wife Joan have supported SMG school and Church for many years. They set up the Jim and Joan Miller Endowment to help students at SMG with tuition assistance. Last year he came to the school and treated the students to pizza. He was a kind man, with a big heart, and he loved SMG. He will be greatly missed. You can read more about him here:
https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/arlington-tx/james-miller-12016946
Please pray for the soul of Coach and for his family and friends.
St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!
Blessings,
Amy Utendorf, M.Ed.

Carline Changes - Please Read
It has been brought to my attention that during the afternoon carline the line has been backing up onto Davis.
To prevent this from happening, we need to adjust a few things.
- When entering the SMG parking lot, please make TWO lines. If you go to lane 5 you can start a line near the fence.
- My PreK and Kinder parents can enter their line using the small parking lot near the gym. This will allow them easy access to the line and remove them from the main line altogether.
- Once you are in your lane, please be sure to pull up all the way. DO NOT stop when you see your child; go to the front of the loading area to ensure we can load as many cars as possible.
Having done outdoor carline a few times, we see the need to make a change. Starting MONDAY we will be switching the locations of the ONLY CHILDREN and the 2 OR MORE CHILDREN. This means:
- 2 or more children will be picked up in Lanes 2 and 3
- Only Children will be picked up in Lanes 4 and 5
Thank you for always having your orange cards out and ready for us to see. Thank you for your patience and grace while we work out the details of the carline system. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out.

Day of the Dead - Photo DUE Oct. 25
Day of the Dead, or Día de los Muertos, is a multi-day Mexican holiday in which friends, family and communities come together to celebrate and remember the lives of loved ones who have passed on to the spirit realm.
SMG will be creating a Day of the Dead altar, or ofrendas, a structure dedicated to the deceased, upon which gifts and offerings are placed in order to guide their spirits back among the living just for the holiday. The altar will be located in the cafeteria and available to view between Monday, October 28th and Friday, November 1st. If you would like to recognize your loved one, please send a framed photo to Senora Zavala no later than Friday, October 25th. Label the back with your student's name and grade so it can be returned to you.

TERRIFIC TROJANS
SMG students receive a Terrific Trojan sticker when they are "caught" being safe, responsible and respectful. After wearing the sticker during the day, the Terrific Trojan places it on the hallway bulletin board. We love seeing how full the bulletin board becomes by the end of the school year.
Lunchroom / Playground Volunteers 2024-25
Please consider volunteering to help during lunch and recess. Service hours will be earned. Click on the signup genius link for a description of duties. All volunteers must be current with their Virtus training.

Pet Blessing
Wonderful are all God's works. Blessed be the name of the Lord. The animals of God's creation inhabit the skies, the earth, and the sea. They share in the ways of human beings. They have a part in our lives.
Priesthood Sunday
Priesthood Sunday, celebrated nationwide each year, is a special day to honor the men who serve as priests. SMG students wrote Father Maul letters of thanks and encouragement which were presented at our student Mass.
GorettiFest 2024
We enjoyed an amazing GorettiFest weekend filled with hatchet throwing, longhorn steers, a dunking booth, petting zoo, games and delicious food. If that wasn’t enough, there were fire engines, police cars, ambulances, and yes, a HELIPCOPTER arrived 3 different times, landed and let the kids get in. What a thrill! The stage was hardly ever empty. There was a magician, singers, bands, a fairy princess, martial arts, dancing, talent shows and so much more. Did I mention the rummage sale, book nook, cake spin and vendor hall? The alumni booth was filled with pictures, vintage letter jackets, yearbooks and memories galore. When you have time, scroll through our Instagram account (smgcatholicschool) for a great recap of all the activities

Jr. High Field Trip - Mariachi Herencia de Mexico
SMG junior high students attended the Mariachi Herencia de México a Celebration of Culture at Fort Worth's Bass Hall. Mariachi Herencia de México, founded as a youth ensemble from Chicago’s immigrant barrios, is a two-time Latin Grammy-nominated band, having issued five chart-topping albums and having performed all across North America. The occasion was, quite simply, glorious as the band showed off its versatility, each of the 14, outfitted in a green-and-gold charro suit, taking turns at the front.
