Congratulations to
Mrs. Anderson and Mrs. Ryan!
Message from Mrs. Ryan
Prairie Families,
My most heartfelt gratitude for you, the Prairie families, who have welcomed me and supported my work with your children. Prairie has been more than I could ever hope in the last years of my teaching career.
Your commitment to the school community is amazing, unparalleled in this district! I have fond memories of your wonderful children, who came to school each day ready to learn. It has been truly a pleasure to be a part of the Prairie Family. Your children will continue to thrive, no doubt!
Hopefully our paths will cross in this city…the best place to live! Thank you so very, very much, from the bottom of my heart 💖
Gratefully yours,
Jill Ryan
Message from Mrs. Anderson
I want to extend my most sincere gratitude to you for your unending support and kindness over these past twenty-three years. From personal notes and artwork, yummy luncheons and snacks, flowers and gift cards…to a unique retirement commemorative brick, Naperville gift card and bouquet of roses… you humble me with your kind gestures.
I have been so fortunate to call Prairie my home for most of my thirty-two years teaching art in District 203. I have fond memories of collaborating with SFCP parents to create special art experiences for evening programs at our school and working with the Fifth Grade Special Projects volunteers to create On the Road Again photo presentations for our Fifth Grade Fine Arts Program. It’s been a joy to work with Prairie alumni to paint the buddy bench out back by the playground as well as Impact ART! Club kids to paint Prairie P.R.I.D.E. and paw print signs displayed on the school south fence. Another fond memory was working with H&S parents and artist Timm Etters to bring a unique mural to our school gym.
Sharing my passion for art with your students each week has been rewarding and I will take so many wonderful memories with me as I begin a new chapter in my life. We have created a wonderful space together where students have learned to be creative problem solvers by making a “Beautiful Oops!” with confidence. I will remember students remarking, “That’s so satisfying!” when they roll out sticky printing ink onto a metal plate for the first time. So many students have shared my enthusiasm for art and embraced our Put Your Heart into Art! theme.
In some capacity, I hope I encouraged Prairie students to find their own unique ways to make art an important part of their lives. It’s exciting to know that two of our Prairie alumni are currently working as elementary art teachers, in Nashville and Naperville, too.
I wish you all well and thank you so much for making Prairie School such a special place! In retirement, I plan to spend time with my family and friends (including two energetic Aussie pups), travel, ride my bike on the trails, create artwork, garden, and volunteer at my local library.
Fondly and With Gratitude,
Mrs. Noel Anderson a.k.a. Mrs. A

PRAIRIE DAY THANK YOU!
Prairie Community:
We want to extend a big thank you for your support of this year’s Prairie Day. It was such a treat to see students, staff, and volunteers all working together to make this a memorable event for the students. It’s one of the best days of the year and we could have never pulled it off without the help of our many amazing volunteers.
Home and School would love to thank:
Our Students
Thank you so much to our students for showing your Prairie PRIDE and being respectful throughout the day.
Prairie Elementary Team
Thank you to Mr. Zallis for working with us to create a day that was fun and safe for students, staff, and volunteers. Thank you to the teachers, staff and administrators for so seamlessly blending into the whole process to make this a fantastic event.
Prairie Day Volunteers
Thank you to all of the volunteers. We could have never made this event happen without you selflessly donating your time. A special thanks to our station captains for organizing and running all of the creative Prairie Day stations:
Thank you to our food donation organizers, Erika Gerdes and Liza Schramm, for organizing and setting up a fantastic lunch for all of our volunteers. Prairie Day is such a special day for our school, and we are thrilled we got to experience this amazing event with you all.
Thank you!

Adopt A Garden This Summer!
Sign up to keep our garden thriving!
What is Adopt-the-Garden?
This is how we make sure the Prairie Garden doesn’t shrivel up during the summer break! Families from the Prairie community can sign up to take care of the Garden for one week and in return take home the fresh vegetables and herbs they harvested. Everything growing in the Garden was planted by Garden Club students.
How does it work?
Participants choose a week in June, July or August where they commit to visiting the garden at least three times to water, weed and harvest the garden beds. We have a super cool irrigation system that makes watering easy!!! We need three families per week. No experience necessary! All instructions, tools and equipment are provided.
Why participate?
The Prairie Garden provides garden-based learning opportunities to Prairie students during the Spring and Fall. When you adopt the Garden for a week you’re making sure the vegetables and herbs planted by the Garden Club thrive during the growing season. And you get to take home the fresh produce you harvested!
How will I know what to do?
Easy-to-follow instructions will be posted in the garden shed and made available electronically. Families who have signed up will be required to attend one Garden orientation to learn how to use the watering equipment and to become familiar with basic garden maintenance. Orientation takes place in the Garden on Saturday, May 18 at 10:00 AM or Monday, May 20 at 7:00 PM.
How do I sign up?
Signups are on a first-come, first-served basis.

Thank you and Happy Gardening!!!

5TH GRADE PARENTS
It's Here.
The end. It's a wrap. Game over. Finito. That's all she wrote. Case closed. Stick a fork in it. Curtains. The fat lady has sung. It's in the bag. End of story. Done deal. Game, set and match. It's the end of the line. Over and out. The party's over. All done.
In other words, it's time for 6th Grade! Good luck 5th Graders!!
5TH GRADE CLAP OUT - THURSDAY, MAY 23 at 2:15 PM
On Thursday, May 23, we will celebrate the transition of our 5th graders to middle school with a whole building clap out. Families are invited to greet their 5th grader on the South blacktop outside Door 14 to celebrate this milestone. We have invited former Prairie students that graduated from high school this year to lead the 5th graders in the clap out. We will be starting the clap out at around 2:15 PM.
Please reach out to Beth Grubich with any questions.
5th Grade Panoramic Photo
The panoramic photo of our 5th grade students has already been taken and it looks GREAT! A framed copy of this panoramic photo will proudly be displayed outside the 5th grade classrooms until our 5th graders graduate from high school!
5th Grade Families can get their own copy of this class photo by clicking here:

Return Your Wishtree Book for Future Use
This year, SFCP was proud to introduce the book Wishtree, by Katherine Applegate, to the Prairie Community for our All-School Read. SFCP is grateful to Home & School and to Prairie Elementary for providing the funds to purchase close to 400 Wishtree books!
In an effort to spread the joyful experience of reading this wonderful book, we are asking families to return their book to SFCP. We will then give the returned books to another Naperville 203 elementary school to use for their All-School Read. Our hope is to create a tradition of passing books from school to school in order to facilitate community reading and to drastically reduce the cost of these events. Please note that you are free to keep the book. Return of the book is completely voluntary.
Simply have your child bring the book back to school and give to his/her teacher. We will collect the books for future use at another school. Thank you so much for all of your support this year! We look forward to more fun and enriching events in the next school year!
Lost and Found
Do you see any of your kid's stuff here?
It is time for our last Lost & Found clean-out! Students and adults are welcome to go through the bin to find missing items. All items will be collected and donated on May 21, 2024.
Deadline to Order is June 16
Avoid the Rush and Hassle of Buying School Supplies!
School Supply Kits for 2024-2025
Home & School provides the school supply kit service, in partnership with School Tool Box, to give parents/guardians a convenient way to buy school supplies in a comprehensive kit compared to purchasing independently. From markers to notebooks to even paper towels and wet wipes, all of the teacher requested classroom supplies are included in these kits.
To purchase your kit
- Visit the School Tool Box site
- Select the zip code and then select our school - ‘Prairie Elementary.'
- Orders will be accepted until Sunday, June 16, 2024.
- If you do not see email confirmation of your order, please check your spam folder.
School supply kits will be ready for pickup before the start of the school year, so once you purchase online, your student(s) are covered! Please remember to order the supply kit for the grade your child will be entering for the 2024-2025 school year.
If you have any questions, please contact Carolyn Buckingham (cforgue@gmail.com) or Anne Walker (annewalker011@gmail.com).
ONE COMMITTEE CHAIR POSITION STILL NEEDED!
Only the CO-VENTURES committee still needs a Chair (actually two) for next school year (2024-2025).
This committee coordinates monthly fundraising partnerships with various community businesses throughout the school year. Fundraisers can include Shop-n-Share at local businesses and designated “Eat Out” days at local restaurants with proceeds benefiting Prairie H&S. The commitment level for this committee is medium and usually once a month throughout the school year.
If you are considering being a chair of Co-Ventures, please contact Stuart S. Hong, H&S Vice President.
NEWS FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE
Medication Pick-Up
Unless your child is going to summer school, all medication must be picked up from the Health Office by the end of the last day of school on May 23. Medication for registered summer school students will be transferred to the summer school location by district personnel. The district medication policy does not allow medication to be sent home with a student or to be stored in the health office over the summer.
As a reminder, a new medication order form must be signed by a physician every school year. Allergy action plans also must be filled out and signed by a physician yearly. The district medication form, allergy action plans, asthma action plans, seizure action plans, and all other health forms may be found at this district web page link. If you have any questions regarding medications, please contact the Prairie Health Office at (630) 420-6350.
