Marysville Message
May 31st, 2024
Dear Marysville Families
We had a wonderful last week of May at Marysville. It was filled with celebrations.
Thank you so much to the Family Association and Parent Volunteers for providing staff with a front yard feast today. We feel stuffed and spoiled. Thank you also for the popsicle Friday Fun.
Wednesday the district held the Annual Torch Awards recognizing the Best of Portland Public Schools Staff. For the second year in a row a Marysville Staff Member received an award. Mica Semrau was one of the 16 awardees out of over 150 nominated staff members.
Thursday afternoon we concluded our learning during AAPINH Heritage Month with a fabulous assembly led by our incredible school counselor Sakura Hamada. Thank you to Ms. Sakura and the AAPI affinity group students for all the work and their skill that went into this joyous assembly.
On Thursday evening we were able to celebrate three Marysville Students as they received awards honoring their academic and community efforts at the District Student All Star Awards Ceremony.
At Portland Public Schools, our priority is to elevate student voice, and to focus our work on creating an inspired, equitable, and rigorous educational experience for every student. It is particularly important that we honor our students who represent racially diverse ethnic and cultural groups across the district and have excelled despite the systemic challenges they face every day.
It was a great testament to the amazing strengths of Marysville students that out of hundreds of district nominations, three awards went to Marysville students! We are so proud of all of our students and know that we will continue to see great things from these capable, and resilient community leaders.
Next week the fun continues with a School Spirit Week.

Dear families,
We wanted to remind you that the Successful School Survey is open until May 31. The Successful Schools Survey is an opportunity for students, staff, and families to provide important feedback on their school environments, learning experiences, and sense of well-being and safety at school.
The survey is conducted once every school year to provide timely information to schools, district leadership, and the community, allowing us to make informed decisions about school climate and culture.
Portland Public Schools highly values the input and opinions of its families, and we welcome all PPS parents and guardians to complete this year’s survey. We use the data to help improve our schools, providing targeted feedback and training on how to create healthy school environments that are welcoming for all.
You can complete the Successful Schools Survey online using the link provided below. Please complete one survey per household. If you have more than one student at PPS, we ask that you complete the survey considering the experiences of your eldest child.
The survey will take approximately 15-30 minutes to complete and is available in English, Spanish, Russian, Somali, Vietnamese and Chinese.
