Dear families,
Our little bison have grown so much in these four months of school. This week we will begin MAP testing at Lower Campus. The MAP assessment will provide important growth data for our teachers to personalize instruction for our bison. Last month at our “Coffee with the Principals,” we spoke about strategies to help reduce testing anxiety. The most important strategy begins at home: with talking about it! Our little bison want to do their best for those they care about including their families, teachers, and even themselves which can create a sense of pressure. Remind them that the MAP assessment measures growth so they might not know the answer to every question and that is okay! It is important that they try to do their best. If you have any questions about testing logistics, please reach out to Ms. Garcia, our assistant principal and testing coordinator at mergarcia@dallasisd.org
Ms. Munves, Upper Campus
Families,
As we step into the last few weeks of the semester, I want to take a moment to highlight some of our students' accomplishments! Last week, our ES and MS school choir students performed in their winter concert. This week, we eagerly await our dance companies' performances in Magic and Mystery. Next week, our orchestra students will show off their growth and come together for a semester capstone concert. In addition to these community events, I would also like to recognize our MS E-sports team who won the tournament this past weekend. Our 4th grade chess team came in 3rd place overall in last weekend's tournament and we had 3 gold medalists in 4th and 5th grade. Please join me in congratulating all of our Bison and teachers who participated in each of these events and performances.
This week, our elementary students will take the MAP assessment. Upper campus will be closed to visitors on December 5-7. Middle school students will take ACPs the week of December 18 and our campus will be closed to visitors again from December 18-21. Data from these tests will guide our campus instructional plan for the upcoming semester, so it is very important that all students do their best on these assessments. Please take a few minutes each night/morning to encourage your student and ensure they get a good night's sleep and arrive to school on time with a fully charged, district-issued device on assessment days. Reach out to your classroom teacher or Ms. Pablo if you have any assessment related questions.
