EHS Principal's Update:Week 3

Dear Lions,

Before and after school tutoring starts this week. After School tutoring is available for all student Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 3:40pm - 4:30pm. Before school tutoring is available Monday-Friday from 7:40 am - 8:40 am.

This is a friendly reminder that all students need an official school hall pass when outside in the hallways during classtime. This includes when using the restroom, going to the library, visiting the school nurse, and visiting the counselors office.

Additionally, please mark your calendars for Back to School Night on September 4th, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM on the main campus. We are excited to showcase clubs, and performing groups as well as having an opportunity for you to meet your child's teachers.

As many of you already know, Eastside High School experienced some devastating news last week. Last Wednesday, we tragically lost one of our own, Coach Parker, in a car accident. This loss is a profound blow to our school and the many lives he touched through his passion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our students.

Coach Parker was more than a colleague; he was a mentor, a friend, and an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His impact on our school community was immense; we will deeply feel his absence.

As we process this heartbreaking news, We will continue to offer counseling services for anyone who needs to talk or simply needs a space to grieve. Please know that you are not alone during this difficult time. The school is here to support you in any way we can.

On Saturday, August 31, 2024 at 1:30 PM at the Eastside High School Gymnasium we will unite as a community to honor Coach Parker's legacy and celebrate how he enriched our lives. Until then, let us hold his family, friends, and loved ones in our thoughts and prayers. In the famous words of Coach Parker, “Chop,Chop.”

Every week our EHS Digital Video Production students plan, film, produce, and edit a weekly video bulletin called The Eastside Extra to keep the EHS Lion family informed. Does your student need additional social emotional support at EHS? EHS offers many on campus student support groups to support our Lions through the many issues today's teens may be dealing with. If you would like to refer your student for a student support group, please scan the QR code and complete the google form.

Some examples of Student Support Groups offered at EHS are:

Mood Group, Anxiety, Life Skills, Anger Management, Grief/Loss, Conflict Resolution, and Substance Abuse.

You can also use the form to suggest a group your student may benefit from.

Scholarships and grants are helpful ways to fund your child’s college education. They provide you with free money that can go towards tuition or other educational expenses.This year we have partnered with Going Merry to make completing the FAFSA and finding scholarships easier than ever! Please have your student go to the School Counseling Office for assistance.

EHS parents/guardians have three options for viewing their student's grades, assignments, and attendance.

1. AV High School District App (Lion Link) - This app gives you new, information, as well as your student's progress. It is available on both the Apple App Store and Google App Store. When in the app store, search for AVUHSD and download the app.
2. PowerSchool App - This app ties right into your PowerSchool Parent Portal. You will get live updates on grades, assignments, and attendance. This app is also found on the Apple App Store and Google App Store. Search for PowerSchool and use district code: NWMZ.
3. PowerSchool Parent Portal: https://powerschool.avhsd.org/public

There are some helpful links below to get your PowerSchool Parent Portal account set up for the school year.

If you need to clear an absence, please email the EHS Attendance office at ehs-attendance@avhsd.org. Make sure to include your student's name, student ID number, date of absence, reason for the absence, your name, and relationship to the student. You may also call the attendance office at 661-946-3800 Extensions 1050 (A-L) and 1045 (M-Z).
