The True Meaning of Easter Eggs & Jelly Beans
Mrs. Coleman and our 1st graders spent time this week learning about Jesus and the Gospel stories around Palm Sunday, Holy Week, and Easter. They worked on filling eggs with items that symbolize the journey of our salvation in Christ.
What's Inside of the Eggs?
Inside of each egg is a symbol that represents the story of Jesus from Palm Sunday through Holy Week to Easter Sunday. The students learned the Gospel stories of our most sacred time of year.
1. Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. The people waved palm branches (Matthew 2:1-11) = a bit of palm branch
2. Mary poured expensive perfume on Jesus' feet (John 12:2-8) = perfume on a cotton ball
3. Jesus ate the Last Supper with His disciples (Matthew 26: 17-19) = a small cracker
4. Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver (Matthew 27:3) = a coin
5. Jesus carried His cross (John 19:17) = a small paper cross or blade of grass
6. Soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus' head (John 19:2) = a small crown
7. Soldiers parted Jesus' garments and cast lots for His coat (John 19:23) = a piece of material or a dice
8. Jesus was nailed to a cross and pierced in His side (John 19: 18, 37 and John 20:25-29) = a small nail
9. They gave Jesus vinegar mixed with gall on a sponge to drink (Matthew 27:34) = vinegar on a cotton ball
10. Spices to prepare Jesus for burial (John 19:40) = cotton ball with spices on it
