Spring brings new beginnings, and with them, new initiatives and opportunities for your child. We will share information and resources this quarter to help you support your child throughout this season.

Announcements
HEP/CAMP
Application Period: March 15 - May 15
Purpose: Support eligible migratory students in their pursuit of higher education.
Benefits: Beyond financial aid, enjoy mentorship and guidance throughout your academic journey.
The HEP/CAMP scholarship offers excellent support for eligible migratory students pursuing higher education. Beyond providing financial aid, these scholarships offer a unique blend of mentorship and guidance to accompany you on your academic pursuit.

STAAR Information
Learn everything you need to know about the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) here. In addition to explaining the test, this page gives suggestions on how to help your child prepare.
You can also look at sample questions and test forms to know what your child can expect on the testing date on this page.
STAAR and End of Course (EOC) Testing windows open April 9th and run through May 3rd. These state tests are used to determine a child’s preparedness for the next grade level. Below is a schedule of each grade and content level window. Talk to your child’s teacher to find out which dates they will be testing.

High Frequency Word Practice Video
This video shows some ways you can help your child practice high frequency words at home. These activities are explained further on this tip sheet. Please sign up for a free account at the Texas Migrant Education Page.
Google Translate
Target: Translate all websites
Google Translate can be added to your Google web browser to translate any page.
Open Google Extensions and search for Google Translate.
Click “Add to Chrome.”
Open any website and click on the Google Translate icon. If it does not appear on the menu bar, click the puzzle piece to locate and open it.
Click “Translate this Page.” Then select the language you want to translate it to on the upper left of your screen.
Copy and paste the website URL in the box, and the page will be translated.

Parent Resources
As a migratory family, your children may experience educational challenges when moving FROM one school district TO another district. The AIIMS portal offers information to help make the transition go smoothly. Watch these videos for information on how you can help your child have a smooth transition to the new district.
Parents can also look at the Before Leaving Your Current School Checklist (PDF) and the When You Arrive in a New District Checklist (PDF) to help prepare for your move.
Education Resources
Did you know that there are readily made resources you can use at home with your child? They are available for FREE through the Texas Migrant Education Program (TMEP).
Go to the txmigrantk12 to get started. Click on “Create an Account'' and answer the following questions:
No matter what answer you give, you will be prompted to create a Username and Password. Save these so you can log in regularly to use the resources.
