Report cards will go home on Feb. 7. These will include their report card, NWEA score reports, and attendance letters for students who have missed more than three days of school so far. Make sure to ask your student for their reports!

In 6th grade, our Lions are working on dividing in Math, learning about Chinese New Year in Social Studies, studying earth science in Science, and working with poetry and figurative language in ELA.

In 7th grade, our Lions are studying genetics and reproduction in Science, rational number arithmetic in Math, the Great Depression in Social Studies, and working on their mystery unit in ELA.

In 8th grade, our Lions are learning about robber barons and labor movements in Social Studies, working on their science fiction unit in ELA, starting microbiotics in Science, and working with linear equations in Math.

6th grade mathematicians explored how to use a tape diagram to represent equal-sized groups and find the number of groups. Describe how to draw a tape diagram to represent and answer 3 divided by 3/5?

7th grade mathematicians learned how to write and solve equations to represent situations that involve rational numbers. Which is a scaled copy of Polygon A? Identify a pair of corresponding sides and a pair of corresponding angles. Compare the areas of the scaled copies.

8th grade mathematicians talked how to identify ordered pairs that are solutions to an equation. Here is an equation: 4x-4=4x+___. What could you write in the blank so the equation would be true for:

1. No values of X
2. All values of X
3. One value of X

Our sensational Spanish Immersion teachers shared the incredible things the program is doing at the GCS Choice Schools Showcase last week. If you know any rising 6th grade Spanish Immersion students, help spread the word about the Choice Schools application period!

Our stupendous STEM teachers shared the wonders of STEM is doing at the GCS Choice Schools Showcase last week. If you know any rising 6th graders interested in science, robotics, coding, physics, forensics, geology, and design--be sure to let them know about the Choice Schools application period!

This week our Lions began their new Encore rotations. They made portfolios in Art, practiced procedures playing games in gym, and learned about what their new classes would hold. Ask your student all about what they are doing in their Encore classes!

On Friday, students who received top Classcraft points during the second quarter attended a school dance! They got to spend some time socializing, dancing, and celebrating their positive behavior choices at school!

This month, the Swann Pride is focusing on PERSEVERANCE! Watch this video about grit and perseverance with your child. What are some ways they show grit at home? At school? In your personal life? Why is persevering important to your future?

Remember the cut off time for early pick up in the afternoon is 3:45. After 3:45, please join the pickup line at the back of the school. This helps us ensure a safe dismissal for all students and ensures our buses are able to queue properly in front of the school.
