May 3rd, 2024 Principal's Message
Hello Blevins Families,
It was another fun week as we turned the calendar to May. It's hard to believe, but the last month of school is here! Please check the newsletter for important upcoming dates.
I'm excited for tonight's first performance of Finding Nemo, Jr.! Mr. Floyd and his musical theatre team of students have been hard at work for many weeks to prepare for this event. I hope that you join us to watch this weekend and/or the next.
Next week will also hold our Spring MAP testing in Reading and Math. This assessment is given in the fall, winter, and spring, to show the academic progress of our students. We've seen so much growth from our students this year that we anticipate some excellent scores. Please encourage your child to be well rested this week for the testing dates.
Thanks for your continued partnership and support. Believe in Blevins!
Proudly,
Joe Zappa, Principal

IMPORTANT END OF THE YEAR INFORMATION
End of the Year Medication Pickup
REMINDER: the last day of school is a half day
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Medications cannot be sent home with students at the end of the school year. Parents must pick up all medications on or before the last day of school. Medications must be picked up by 12:00pm on the last day of school 5/30/24. If medications need to be picked up before the last day of school, make arrangements with Nicole West 970-488-4007 nicolew@psdschools.org. Emergency or as-needed medications (Epi-pens, Tylenol, Inhalers, etc.) must also be picked up. The school nurse will follow state health department procedures and dispose of properly if not picked up.
If medications will be brought back to the school in the fall, you may obtain a medical authorization form from the health tech in your school, or on the PSD website. Please note that forms for the following school year must be dated after 7/31/2024.
If you have any questions, please contact Nicole West 488-4007 nicolew@psdschools.org
A Message from Blevins PTO
Happy National Textiles Day from the Blevins PTO! This is Eric Bowman, your PTO President! Do you know who probably loves textiles? Our teachers. Do you know what else they (especially) love? Support from our amazing community family during Teacher Appreciation Week!
On Tuesday of next week we are providing teachers with a potluck lunch for Taco Tuesday! We are still looking for several food items to be donated. Additionally, we are collecting gift cards and/or monetary donations to purchase gift cards, in the amount of $10 to $20 to give to our outstanding teachers next week.
If you would like to help out with either of the items above, please sign up! Thank you in advance for your generous support!
And now another very important message:
As we approach the end of the school year, the future of Blevins is at stake because of the Poudre School District long range planning effort. Revised scenarios are set to be released next week, and I encourage you to speak up for Blevins. Please consider writing to school board representatives, engaging with community chats, and supporting our Blevins family. Blevins has been hit particularly hard with this process as part of the initial consolidation plans presented by the District in October. Our school, staff, and students do not deserve the negative attention they have received, and need our support now more than ever. We will keep fighting. I believe there is a bright future for Blevins!
I want to personally thank Melanie Potyondy, Blevins parent and City Council member, for being part of a team to write a letter to Superintendent Kingsley supporting Blevins and west side schools and neighborhoods. The team included Melanie, Council Member Kelly Ohlson, and State Representative Andrew Boesenecker. Their letter was SPECTACULARLY written, and even garnered the attention of an article in the Coloradoan yesterday! If you have not seen the letter, or the article, I’d be happy to forward them onto you. Thank you, Melanie (and team)!
BELIEVE IN BLEVINS!

Rocky Mountain High School Cross Country
Hello, Future Rocky Parents!
We hope you and your student athletes are enjoying the end of middle school days, and that you're anticipating your student's transition to Rocky! As a mom of four kids that graduated from or are still at Rocky, I can share wholeheartedly that Rocky is an amazing school.
We would love to welcome new runners to our Rocky Cross Country team! Our Lobo teams have enjoyed great success over the years thanks to our wonderful coaching staff and a culture of hard work. We want to let you know of a few ways to connect to the team, summer practices, our high altitude training camp, where to buy gear, and our website for general information.
We are hosting a new parent/athlete meeting at Rocky in the San Juan Open Space on Thursday, May 23rd at 7:00 p.m. We'll plant someone by the front door to direct people. This is not required, but if you have questions or just want more information about the team, we'll help you hit the ground running!
Summer training runs will take place Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting on Monday, June 3 at 7 a.m at Aggie Greens Disc Golf Course. These runs are not mandatory (though highly encouraged if you're around) until later in the season, but they're a great opportunity to start getting to know the team and to train together whatever your fitness level. Most practices are about an hour and a half early season including some stretching and strengthening post-run. We will always meet at 7 a.m. to beat the heat but in different spots depending on the day. We'll provide more details as they are determined closer to summer.
High altitude camp: A great team bonding and training opportunity at CSU's Pingree Park campus from July 25 - July 28th . More details to follow, but mark your calendars if your athlete is interested!
Team website: Here is the link to our team website. While we're still adding dates for the upcoming season, it will provide an overview of some fun options such as our team dinners, our Lobo Invitational, how to support the team, etc.

Team Gear: Want to gear up before the season? Find everything from performance tees, to hats, to running tights, all with our Rocky XC logo (for runners and parents). Our cross country team earns about 10% of these purposes, so you can support the team while sporting your new Rocky XC swag! (orders take 2-4 weeks to arrive, so please plan ahead.)

If you'd like to be added to the Rocky XC e-mail list, please e-mail head Coach John Prasuhn at jprasuhn@psdschools.org.
Don't hesitate to reach out to John or me with questions. We want you to be fully informed, and most importantly, we welcome you to the Rocky XC family!
Go Lobos!
