Weekly Update of Events and Happenings at SRMS
February 11th, 2024
SRMS will be a hub to develop academic and social success for our diverse population, where all students and faculty matter and have a gift to contribute to our school and community.
Message from Mr. Dunbar
Please remember that all schools will be closed on Monday, February 19th for the Presidents' Day holiday. As we move forward in the 3rd quarter, I want everyone to remember to keep S.O.A.R.ing! That means be Safe, On Task, Accountable, and Respectful each and everyday. Keep up the great work!

Mentoring is BACK!
Andrea Young, Karen Rodriguez, and Charles Eible, with the safety and security team from St.
Mary’s County Public Schools, are hoping to implement a mentoring program at Spring Ridge
Middle School. We are volunteers with Travis Manion Foundation (TMF). TMF empowers
veterans and families of fallen heroes to develop character in future generations.
We work with youth in a variety of ways. An opportunity of interest for SRMS students may be:
● Character Does Matter Presentation:
● This course introduces character strengths to students through interactive activities,
discussion, and mentorship within a smaller group setting.
● The goal will be to bring a sense of unity from the students into the community. The
staff and students will work with community leaders to get a positive perspective for
everyone involved.
● Free Travis Manion Tee Shirts to all members
● Free Field Trips implementing our character strengths within the community
● Transportation is provided for members only
● Snacks will be provided
● Every Tuesday 2:10 pm - 3:40 pm
We look forward to discussing how to work with your students to inspire the next generation. If
interested, contact Charles Eible, the Schools Safety Coordinator for St. Mary’s County public
schools, at cheible@smcps.org.
SRMS Girls Go To The Kennedy Center!!
Dr. Brown-Taylor and SRMS students attended the Alvin Ailey Dance Performance at the Kennedy Center on Saturday, February 10, 2024. This field trip is sponsored by The Carolyn E. Parker Foundation, one of our community partners who also sponsors Project Cinderella. What an awesome experience for this group of young ladies.
SRMS Math Counts Team Rocks!!!!
Congratulations to all Mathcounts competition participants who competed in the Southern Maryland Regional Mathcounts competition. They were one of 18 schools who competed. While the team did not advance to the state competition in March, four individual students did. Congratulations to Evan McCormick, Kevin Vo, Jack Flaherty, and Alex Vo. All four will compete individually in the Maryland state competition on Saturday, March 16th at Johns Hopkins University. Not only did they qualify to move on, but 3 out of those four students scored in the top 12 out of approximately 120 students ! Way to go!
Sponsors Needed!!
On May 3-4, 2024 the Spring Ridge Middle School Drama Department will be proudly presenting its annual drama production “The Drowsy Chaperone Jr.” Our talented students are in rehearsal and working very hard to put on a fantastic show.
We, the Spring Ridge Middle School Drama Department, would love to offer our business community an opportunity to become sponsors of our show with the inclusion of your company’s name and/or a small advertisement in the program. If your business would be interested in contributing a donation to the Drama Department, the company’s name will appear in our program. We appreciate any donations given to our drama department. These donations will be used toward items such as: supplies for set design, props, and costumes and to offset the advertising and program cost, just to name a few.
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor for the Spring Ridge Middle School Drama Department, please contact Ms. Evans at mcevans@smcps.org.

Información de inscripciónALERT: Beware of Phishing Attempts on SMCPS Student Accounts
In recent weeks, phishing attempts have been targeted at SMCPS student accounts using methods outside of SMCPS managed services.
Phishing is a method where malicious individuals attempt to trick you into providing them with information about you and your online account information. These methods can take many forms, so staying vigilant for anything that seems out of the ordinary when online is important.
Additionally, please note that SMCPS IT support will never contact you on Discord, Steam, or any other application that is not managed by SMCPS and will never ask you for your account password. If you are contacted on any outside application stating to be SMCPS IT, please DO NOT respond, block/report the individual and inform your site administration so that it can be escalated.
