A Note from Principal Presley
The weeks keep soaring by! Before we know it, it will be the end of the school year.
Last Saturday, we had wonderful weather and great support for the Community Cares Day! I know for many of you, this time of year is a busy one with extracurricular activities, so if you missed this one, there'll be another opportunity in the Fall!
This Wednesday, Ms. Hjorth and Ms. Boyeas facilitated an AMAZING Kindergarten Connect Informational Session. Our families are so fortunate to have these two as families' first teachers at BCS! It was a packed room with lots of great questions, so a special thanks to them for being there!
This week, sixth graders spent the week at outdoor school; they returned to school this afternoon both tired and fulfilled from a great week learning and bonding. Thanks to Ms. Dahl and Mr. Lane for taking the lead and supporting students throughout the week!
Last night, Dr. Husk sent out correspondence to staff about the cuts at the district office. The big takeaways were many vacant positions won’t be refilled at the district office and there will be a flattening of layers between the school building administrators and the superintendent. By next week, staffing movements should be finalized, so I hope to include all of that in the next newsletter! We know this time of year is a bit stressful, and staffing wonderings certainly don’t help.
Finally, as the days progress and the weather improves, we are seeing more active humans both inside and outside of the classroom. I can't thank our teachers/staff, volunteers, and those giving daily reminders at home for continuing to hold high expectations, reminding/restating the expectations as students fatigue, and continuing to build relationships and increase inclusivity until the very end!
As we head into the weekend, I'm excited to have one that's not so busy although it was so fun to see FOUR students this past Saturday at the Timbers game and out and about on NW 23rd! It was also fun to see the Timbers hold it to 2-2 while playing down a player and with a second string keeper (darn red cards) for almost an entire half. Enjoy the weekend and what appears to be some warm weather!
Need to Knows
Have any cans or bottles laying around? Donate them to BCS!
I am excited to share that BCS is participating in the BottleDrop Earth Week Give this year. This is a BIG opportunity for us to earn some extra money through our ongoing BottleDrop fundraiser. Could you please help me spread the word by including the following information in the Cougar Connection each week from now until May 4 (the next 3 weeks)?
We are excited to participate in the "BottleDrop Earth Week Give" this month! Return BottleDrop Blue Bags between April 22 and May 4 to earn a 20% bonus on every bag. This is a GREAT time to clear out your cans and bottles, bring a Blue Bag to your workplace, or convince your neighbors to try it out. For more information or to get Blue Bags, email bottledrop@beverlyclearyschool.org or visit our BottleDrop website. THANK YOU for supporting our school!
Thank you to all of the Community Care Day volunteers!!
Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate early by working to beautify the school grounds during our spring Community Cares day. Many hands made light work, and we were able to:
-Pick up trash from the whole campus
-Fertilize the blueberry bushes
-Sweep up dead leaves and debris from the sidewalks
-Trim back overgrown bushes and trees
-Pull up so many weeds, along with some dead trees and bushes
-Spread some mulch into the garden areas
-Sweep mulch back into the playground
-Relocate some scared baby rabbits to a safe location (awe!)
The grounds are looking neat and spiffy. Let's all do our part to keep it that way by reminding ourselves and our children to pick up our food wrappers, as this was the majority of the trash that we found.
Thank you again for everyone's hard work. We'll hold another Community Cares day in late summer. See you then!
